Hurricane Arthur located 90 miles east of Virginia Beach continues moving northeast away from the North Carolina and Virginia coasts...

...Squalls of heavy rain and gusty winds will move south across the Eastern Shore...Northern Neck...middle peninsula and Hampton Roads through 9 am...

At 800 am EDT...Doppler radar indicated a bands showers or squalls extending from Maryland Eastern Shore south across the Bay to Hampton Roads and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. A trained spotter recently reported a wind gust just over 50 mph near Buckroe Beach in Hampton. Winds elsewhere were gusting to 35 to 45 mph with the highest winds near the water.

Hazards produced by the bands of showers include... gusty winds of 40 mph...up to 50 mph along the coast and Bay. Heavy rainfall and minor flooding.

Seek shelter in a nearby building or vehicle. Strong winds are capable of knocking down small trees and blowing around trash cans... potted plants...lawn furniture and other light outdoor objects. Heavy rainfall may cause minor flooding of low lying areas including ditches...creeks...roadways and areas of poor drainage. Avoid these areas and do not cross flooded roads. Motorists should also reduce driving speeds to avoid hydroplaning.
