Four years after winning a closely contested race for the Maryland State Senate, Democratic incumbent Jim Mathias could face another stiff challenge in Republican Mike McDermott.
Mathias won election to the senate in 2010 by a razor-thin margin of just 640 votes over Carousel Resort Hotel General Manager Michael James.
In McDermott, the senator will face a well-organized candidate whose credits include the Maryland House of Delegates, mayor of Pocomoke City and chair of the Worcester County state delegation. Mathias, himself a former mayor of Ocean City and member of the Maryland House, had a similar background when he was elected to the senate four years ago.

Go Mike Go!
Jim has proven a useful tool to the Democrat 'leadership' in Annapolis.
Jim has been useless to constituents back home. Completely out of touch.
His 'Mustang Sally' days across the bridge will end.

If the citizens who comprize the electorate in Somerset Co. have half a brain they`ll vote for McDermott. Mathias has been an extra-large ZERO for them and other voters who do NOT live in Ocean City. That`s ALL he cares for and to qualify what I have said, let him show Somerset just what he`s brought home from his big friends in Annapolis. I see he`s agreed with everything that the two BIG Mikes want because of OweMalley. I will NEVER vote for him for ANYTHING and encourage all the readers in cyberland to do the same. McDermott has the stones to reveal the dirt such as men using female toilets. This should NEVER made it to a vote but the other side wanted it and; well with help from this side they got it. If my wife went into a toilet and a man tries to follow her I`ll handle that and if Mathias was standing there I`d punch him and not the offender.
Before you VOTE, thing of all the injustices that have transpired at the hands of the Democrats and vote your conscience in November.
I think Mr. Mathias cares more for his friends in Annapolis than the people on the shore. I wish he would have ,at least once, stood and spoke for the unborn. This is not permitted by his handlers in Annapolis.
Time for us to lose this loser!
Vote for Mike.
Mathias has even sold out Ocean City. Who is going to choose OC beaches with a view of massive turbines over DE. When the turbine spin, it won't just be higher taxes in MD but also higher electric bills.
Go Mike!!!
Looks like Mathias is in the bar, Again!
