The one horse town celebrated its victory in a church this past Friday night. The townspeople broke out into smiles after finding out two Florida policymakers quit their journey to take away Hampton’s cityhood. The 89-year-old city, with a population of 477, was on a tight rope after an audit came out in February revealing a plethora of violations. It found 31 federal, state, and local codes were broken, with allegations surrounds double-dipping and using city property for personal reasons.
The quaint city was already known as an infamous speed trap zone but gained even more publicity as a small-town with big corruption when lawmakers threated to pull its city charter a month ago. However, the townspeople persevered. Within a matter of four weeks, they had come up with an outline that persuaded Representative Charles Van Zant and Senator Rob Bradley to allow them to keep their city. I wish our Mare would get locked up in the County Jail. As a matter of fact I wish an audit could be done and find a past Mare and council members guilty and put in jail.
Some names come to mind such as Tilghman, Dunn, Comegys, Catcart and Smith.
An audit should be forthcoming ASAP since the missing money from the Finance Dept was discovered. It's the only responsible thing to do.
It needs to be done by an accounting firm with NO local ties. Not saying they are or would be dishonesty but in order to avoid any negative appearance this is how prudent people go about things.
Interesting just last night on American Greed, was a story on a woman who worked (comptroller) for a municipality (Dixon IL) and stole over 53 million dollars during her stint.

Of course there would be dishonesty. That's what got them in trouble in the first place.
Getting strong-armed, killed, robbed, beaten, extorted, raped, or ripped off in a drug deal by the Crips or the police? No difference, except the Crips COULD go to prison.
I wonder how many of THAT town's leaders looked the other way or told the citizens what "heroes" the police were, and how much they "protect" them? And by "protect them", refer to the first paragraph for a more clear definition of THAT.
The cops can always move to New Mexico. The police force there is always on the lookout for a few more killers and thieves.

I would like to see the state audit the entire city along with the Fire Department. We have seen the abuse in the Fire Department and someone should be held accountable for it. I've been told by a reliable source that certain people are getting paid massive amounts of overtime. Why would you pay overtime especially on nights and weekends when all you have to do is ask a volunteer to fill that spot.
I am not even going to mention the Fire Boat and other capital equipment wasted tax dollars bought.
