EVER SEE A TRAIN LAY NEW TRACK OVER THE REMOVED EXISTING TRACK?

This is what is happening from Chicago to St. Louis for the high speed rail.

People were stopping along the highway taking pictures.

For those who live in the Springfield area and have seen all the machines running up and down the tracks, here is a link to a video that shows you how the concrete ties and rail are put in place.
The road bed was raised 13 inches to accommodate the new high speed rail line between St. Louis , MO and Chicago , IL .
There are only two of these track laying machines in the world, one here and one in Europe
I wonder what all those laborers who laid the first cross country tracks would think if they could see this!

AWESOME.. But how many workers did this machine displace?

Maybe not quite as many workers were displaced as one might think.I used to operate a bricklaying machine that layed more than 3000 bricks per day.The machine had to be constantly supplied with bricks and mortar by a laborer, and could only be used on straight runs.Whenever it came to an opening of any kind like a door or window, the machine was shut down while bricklayers layed the bricks around said openings. As for the track machines, workers are still needed, just not as many.

I've seen a machine do similar with roads. It would dig up the road ahead of it, recycle process and heat it up in the middle, and new road would come out the back.

Looked like a good system. Don't know why don't see more of them.
