CAMBRIDGE — A bill to lift Dorchester County’s excise tax on new construction will be presented at the April 15 meeting of the Dorchester County Council, according to Council President Jay Newcomb.
Tuesday, April 1, the county council heard from representatives of Dorchester municipalities, where the county’s $3,671 impact fee is now charged for new construction of a single family home.
Cambridge Commissioner Gage Thomas said the Cambridge City Council is in the process of enacting a five-year suspension of its impact fees on new construction.
Hurlock Mayor Joyce Spratt said Hurlock already has lifted its impact fee for new construction, which was reduced from $5,000 to $2,000 last year. “We don’t have any impact fees,” she said.

Now if we only had some jobs here on the shore.....
Bob Culver has proposed this for Wicomico County, but Pollitt doesn't want to do it.
While this will spur some economic activity for builders/carpenters/contractors, the real question is who is going to buy these homes? Where are they going to work? Can they pay the mortgage? Sounds like a gift to the rich that can afford to build a new home.
Like Salisbury, there are no jobs in Cambridge. It's like Detroit. The Hell hole of the Eastern shore. Full of abandoned buildings and warehouses. A shell of its former self. Like Detroit, Liberal government has destroyed the town and the County. The downtown is joke and is too close to the depressed high crime areas of Cambridge.
Cambridge has a downtown? Who knew?
When was the last time you were in Cambridge? There are some very good restaurants downtown and retail stores. Oh, I get it now, those place cater to visitors with money to spend not locals looking for AYCE at Golden Corral.

I go there at least once a week because I have family there. I stand by what I say. It is a hell hole and a slum. A shell of its former self. Restaurants aren't all that great. The city is like Detroit. Great place in the Fifty's and early Sixty's but no more. They didn't change with the times.
Oh snap! Took me a minute to realize that 10:30 has family in Cambridge which just means they are from heres living in a come here world. How many times have you and yours stayed at the Hyatt or had dinner there? Cambridge is the next Easton/St. Michaels. The baby boomers that are retiring with gov't pensions on the western shore that can't afford talbot county are headed to Dorchester. Less BS than Wicomico county and easy access to the beaches without going through salibury.
