Whiny People Sue Over Cross Shaped Memorial In Maryland

Why? Because they’re “offended”, and we wouldn’t want an itty bitty tiny number of people to be offended, so they have to ruin it for everyone

(Fox News) A humanist advocacy group has filed a federal lawsuit to remove a cross-shaped World War I memorial in Prince George’s County, alleging the display violates the First Amendment.

The American Humanist Association says it does not object to the fact that the Bladensburg Cross memorializes soldiers, but rather the placement of the Christian symbol on property owned by a government agency, The Daily Record reported.

“We are certainly recommending coming up with a monument inclusive of all religious groups,” said Monica Miller, a lawyer with the association’s Appignani Humanist Legal Center.

Which is a load of mule fritters, because they are demanding that the memorial be removed, rather than changed to include symbols from other religions. The memorial has been there since 1925, and is in honor of the 49 men from Prince George Country who were killed in WWI.

These liberal asses will clam the cross is in violation of the 1st amendment,and then turn around and demand we pass gun restriction laws or confiscation of our guns.

This is absolutely ridiculous! I'd be willing to be that those 49 men who died were Christians and would be offended if "all religious groups" were included in THEIR memorial.

What about the rights of the dead or disturbing a memorial/burial site (obviously the soldiers aren't buried there)?

So, are we going to go to every veteran's cemetery, including Arlington, and sandblast off the crosses and Stars of David from every dead soldier, sailor, marine and airman's headstone? Will we eliminate the Chaplain Corps from all military services, or just remove their collar devices? Will we take the churches and chapels from all military bases? How about the small chapels in every military and VA hospital?

This is all getting way, way, way out of hand.

The irony of calling these people "whiny". I seem to recall, not so long ago, lots of people being "whiny" right here on a story about Muslim children being allowed to take off school for their holidays.

This rampant Christian priveledge has got to stop. It's Unconstitutional, the establishment clause exists for a reason. Our government is a secular one, and only a secular government can protect religious liberty. This isn't about being "offended". It's about whats right and wrong... and promoting one religions iconography over all others is flat out Unconstitutional and flat out wrong.

I'm as anti-religion as they come, but get over yourselves. It's a historic landmark, that has stood since 1925. It's a joke that anyone would want to change something almost 90 years old. Idiots come from all sides, focus on things that mean something, and better your, and your family's, life. Yawn.

Whenever these thin skinned groups goes after a symbol or monuments like this, we should erect or display thousands of crosses everywhere. Find out who they are and where they live and work, then line the streets, homes, buildings and landscape with crosses of every size, shape and color. That may be enough for them to crawl back in their he.

How about all the other religions in the world line up with all their symbols in your yard.

If they do, no big deal. I'll take them down and cut the grass. I won't go pi$$ on my neighbor's yard.

@3:48

You miss the point. There is no argument to remove the landmark, the call is to remove the Christian Iconography. There is not a single legitimate reason that the monument HAS to be a Christian cross. Why not an American Eagle? Or a Soldier? Or an American Flag? Something that embodies all of us, not just some of us. Using a cross is a gross violation of the establishment clause.

Also, it does not matter if the the monument has been up for 1000 years. If it its wrong, it is wrong. You don't keep doing something just because of it's longevity. It's like arguing "you know, slavery is wrong, but we should abolish it because we've been doing it for so long". The argument just doesn't have merit.

No 6:18, we are not missing the point. It was never about us! We honor our fallen and if that offends you and others, to bad. We won't bow down to your illogic and misguided opinions....never. A change is coming and these forced unamerican views will land you on the wrong side..guaranteed.

@7:52

Please to explain why the monument, on public land, HAS to be a cross? Why it HAS to be a Christian symbol. Why not an eagle or soldier or flag? Can you explain to me WHY it HAS to be a Christian symbol? If the purpose is to Honor the fallen, why is that honor STOLEN away to push a theocratic agenda?

You are missing the point.
