My Thoughts 2-26-14

There's a couple topics I feel need to be addressed.
We'll start with the Rick Pollitt/Daily Times situation.

I met Rick Pollitt around nine years ago and found him to be a really nice guy with great intentions. Back then he proved to the public he was all about open government and expressed it quite a bit on his campaign trail.

Today, County Executive Rick Pollitt is making it almost impossible to obtain specific information the Daily Times is requesting referencing charges on the County's Credit Card.

The Daily Times asked the County to relieve them of the $800.00+ charges the Executive wants to charge the DT's for copies of the past three years worth of statements and quite frankly it's obvious Rick has something to hide.

After following Rick on his Campaign, it amazes me how much Rick has forgotten where he came from. Rick, there's an election coming up and for what it's worth, I think the taxpayers are going to make you REMEMBER where you came from and the majority will vote for Bob Culver instead.
Now, let's talk about Laura Mitchell. Did you know there's NOTHING in the County Charter that says a candidate can not actually sit on TWO elected positions. That's right. According the the County's Charter Laura Mitchell can hold both City and County Council seats. On top of that Laura is also running for a Central Committee seat AND she's already involved with the MML.

With all due respect Laura, this clearly proves you could actually hold a real job in the real world and the ONLY reason I can see Laura running for the County Council is because it delivers a bigger paycheck.

Now, I did some research last night and spoke to a Congressman who told me that there is state law forbidding Mrs. Mitchell from holding two elected positions but they couldn't recite the actual legislation. So we'll see about that.

By the way, it's still snowing in Delmar.

Under the second approach, 25 of those 47 states and the three territories prohibit state legislators from holding any other elected office at the county or municipal level in addition to the state level. The states taking this second approach are: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Utah, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Further variations are in Georgia, Indiana, Maryland, Oregon and Virginia, where a legislator is allowed to hold a second elected county or municipal office only when the second office is not considered lucrative. Generally, an office is considered lucrative when the office-holder receives compensation or remuneration beyond reimbursement for actual expenses incurred.

State legislator cannot hold a county-level elected office if the second office is a civil office of profit or trust.
No person holding any civil office of profit, or trust, under this State shall be eligible as Senator or Delegate.
Md. Const. art. III § 11

You have no idea about the lives of the people you trash. Frankly Laura Mitchell's personal life situation is none of your business. Have you no shame?

In states that do not address the legitimacy of holding two elected offices at the same time by statute or constitution, the question is generally answered by the state's courts. Most state courts base their ruling on the "doctrine of incompatibility of office" where the court compares the specifics of the two particular elected offices at issue, looks at the duties of the two offices, and decides if one of the offices is subordinate to the other or if there are inconsistencies between the duties of the two offices. If so, the offices are "incompatible," and a legislator cannot hold both positions at the same time.

In reference to the Elected-County Executive. It is obvious that there is not much transparency within this administration. Otherwise, he would simply turnover the County's credit card receipts. Remember, Wicomico hasn't got the best reputation - (landfill scandal) - in the book. I say open up the books.

Joe said "the ONLY reason I can see Laura running for the County Council is because it delivers a bigger paycheck."

these days that's the ONLY reason politicians run for ANY office

10:55 She's an elected official... who is paid by US. Her life had better be an open book, good and bad. Have YOU no shame?

mitchell wants to be like pollitt a professional career bureaucrat. lite duty work, holidays/weekends off with pay/salary, lot of free eats, parties/meetings to attend and booze it up, a vehicle and credit cards for the hookers. where do I sign up?

wth is wrong with you 11:39. what was the point of the hooker comment with no valid evidence?

Mitchell will resign from the City Council if she is elected to County Council. Ireton would then appoint a replacement.

Anonymous said...

12:02 I think council appoints the replacement.

Most people in Salisbury really don't give a rat's ars. That's why they keep voting for liberal freeloading Democrats.

12:59 you are correct.

In case of a vacancy for any reason in the Council, the Council, within four (4) weeks of the occurrence of the vacancy, shall elect some qualified person to fill such vacancy for the unexpired term. In case of a vacancy for any reason in the office of Mayor, the Council, within four (4) weeks of the occurrence of the vacancy, shall elect some qualified person to serve as Acting Mayor for the unexpired term. Any vacancies in either the Council or the office of Mayor shall be filled by a majority vote of all the members of the Council. In case the Mayor or any Councilman shall fail to qualify within five (5) days of notification of election, a vacancy shall exist to be filled as provided in this section. The Council shall immediately certify any vote so taken to the City Clerk. The City Clerk shall record the vote and shall forthwith notify the person so elected, who shall, within five (5) days of notice, qualify in the manner as regularly elected city officials.

12:59 That is even scary, if the council is to pick the new council member, you know Shanie and Day will promote who Ireton selects, the council votes could be tied, Shields/Day for, Spies/Cohen against, who breaks the tie? Ireton? Now you know why people don't care anymore.

Anonymous said...

2:12, that's where you get to see what Day is really made of as a leader. Spies and Cohen have already shown THEIR willingness to cooperate to get things done, UNLIKE Shields or Mitchell did with Cohen at the helm. Never saw such disgusting behavior before, except Louise Smith and her banging gavel and Mike Dunn and his cronies.

If Day can't find a way to get everyone together on a suitable person, it won't be Spies and Cohen's fault.

Of course her personally life is important to people who wish to be well informed. It's an indication of their insight on matters and does impact their public responsibilities. What someone does or the way they conduct their private lives is the true picture of who they are.

I'm not in Wicomico but the republican candidate challenging the county executive should take this hiding the credit card receipts and run with it. He could take transparency to a whole new level and vow to put the entire county checkbook online for anyone to view at any time.

This is because anymore Salisbury is mostly freeloaders. Most of these sponges don't even realize they are sponges and actually think they are good productive citizens. Most tend to think of freeloaders and sponges as the welfare crowd, but it extends much further. Freeloaders and sponges also includes those who want the government to provide things like recreation for them and children, cultural activities and events, etc. Those who get all jazzed up over grant money which they call free money, can too be categorized as freeloaders or sponges.

3:01pm Maybe the Republican running against the County Exec. doesn't want this exposed either. The Daily Times reports not only did they ask for the CE's expenses, but also the council's expenses. The Rep. running is currently on the council. Should get very interesting.

Oh Laura Mitchell has a lot to hide, she can't afford to open the book on her life. All that dirt is going to come out. Low income housing, drug dealing son, husband fired from 2 colleges, and so much more.

What is of bigger concern to the tax paying voters concerning Laura Mitchell is who is going to fund her campaign? Anyone can and should look up the expenditures for previous At-Large candidates. Many of these candidates spent nearly $40,000 to get elected to the At-Large position. We now have an un-employed welfare queen who lives off housing vouchers and food stamps. Who is going to finance her campaign. She lives in free housing supplied by Slum Lord Dale Dashiell which is for a single mother and not a woman married to a sexual predator who was fired from Salisbury University and another college in another state. Her kid is an adult drug dealing criminal who shouldn't be living with her any longer. It is said that she is living on narcotics as well. Who is going to financer her campaign. Please Jim Ireton, Chuck Cook and Jake Day who is going to pay for her At Large Campaign.
