Speaking Of Flying Under The Radar, News Wise...

There was a story that was published everywhere else around the Country that the local news media didn't pick up, (including Salisbury News) but should be exposed/told.

Back in November Piedmont Airlines had a flight going out of Philly going to Long Island in New York. It should be noted that Piedmont Airlines Corporate Office is right here in Salisbury.

On this flight a blind man had his service dog with him. He was instructed to keep the dog "under the seat" but the plane had been delayed for about an hour. Hence, the dog became somewhat wrestless and extended out from under the seat to where the gentleman's feet were.

The Airline Stewardess demanded the dog remain under his seat and the blind man became upset because they had been waiting so long. To make a long story short, the blind man was removed from the Plane and ultimately the flight was canceled.

Some passengers on the flight had a different take of the incident.

"When we, the passengers, realized what was going on, we were, like, 'Why is this happening? He's not a problem. What is going on?'" Frank Ohlhorst told 6ABC.com. "And we all kind of raised our voices and said, 'This is a real problem.' The captain came out of the cockpit and he basically asked us all to leave the aircraft."

For what it's worth, Salisbury News has become aware of other major issues right out of the Salisbury Airport in which the public has never been made aware of. In the near future we will be publishing this extremely important information for YOUR SAFETY.

One of the reasons this may not have hit the local news was because they said it was a U.S. Airways Flight and not a Piedmont Flight. More to come...

I've been on several flights seated near people with service dogs and have never seen an issue with the dogs. If the plane was one of the Dash 8 prop planes, it would be hard for a dog to stay completely under the seat in any event.

I read this somewhere but never picked up the connection.
All the passengers were outraged, and I think they tried to make good with the guy, but he wasn't buying it.

poor service and poor attitude will have all of these people out of jobs-- Fed Ex and UPS are probably the only reason that airport exists --because we try and avoid the issues coming out of Salisbury every time we fly and when we do use SBY--it is always a delay in getting out of Philadelphia home --that last leg seems to ruin the entire trip

And Philadelphia has trouble getting the luggage on the flight to Salisbury and then you have to drive out to the airport the next day to get your bags.

Having an airport in Salisbury is very convenient. I use the Charlotte connections whenever possible. The counter agents are typically very helpful and service oriented. The pilots and flight crews are usually nice...however, this week I had a flight where the attendant sat in the back of the plane and read a book while we all nearly froze to death. She did get up once and say that she was turning up the heat because it was a little cold. It was freezing and quite uncomfortable even for those of us wearing coats and layers.

Piedmont is a division of U.S. Airways.

Nothing bad will be heard out of the airport here while Laura Mitchell sits on that commission.

Hate getting a connection thru Philadelphia. Will avoid this if at all possible. Always use Charlotte connections. Philadelphia is the very worst.

What I don't get is why people didnt get moved to make more room for the dog. I have been moved before on one of their flights. I bet it was one of the last flights of the day. You can always tell with some of the crews, not all, because they get an attitude. The comment someone wrote about the stewardess reading, I have seen them do that and not get you something to drink until they decide to. So much for customer service!

My husband and I fly with my dog, Molly. This story involving Piedmont Airlines and their inexperienced crew is appalling. I hope Americans With Disabilities sued. Shameful
