Gun Control Groups Argue For Assault Weapons Ban

BALTIMORE (AP) - Two gun-control advocacy groups have filed legal arguments in support of the Firearms Safety Act passed last year. Gun rights activists are trying to overturn the law.

In one document filed Friday in federal court in Baltimore, lawyers argue that semiautomatic "assault weapons" fall outside Second Amendment protections because they're almost as rare as machineguns, and their pistol grips, barrel shrouds and conduciveness to high-capacity magazines make them equally dangerous.

Marylanders to Prevent Gun Violence filed this brief. The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence filed the other.

The gun itself is not inherently dangerous...the idiot, criminal or psycho that uses it incorrectly or for nefarious purposes is the problem. My AR-15has yet to go on a rampage all by itself...it is very well behaved! I guess cars should be banned, because people die in accidents, and spoons and forks should be banned because people can get fat...and lets not forget pens, because incompetent people like our president can sign bad legislation that is ruining our country!

Based on all the research I've done the best thing to do to get rid of gun violence would be to ban liberals from owning them.

Just another reason I am leaving stupid Maryland in the spring!
Like the bumper sticker says, "You don't have to die to get to a better place, just leave Maryland"!
