Woman Suing Over Amputation Following Arrest

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A local woman had to have her arm amputated after a recent arrest and she is blaming law enforcement authorities.

She has filed a lawsuit and it accuses deputies of using excessive force and the Allegheny County Jail of refusing to allow her to get treatment from a doctor.

The woman’s attorney says those two factors are the major reasons why she lost her arm.

$75k damages??? Should be asking 7.5 million!

Protecting and serving the living crap out of you...

$75K is the threshold amount to move the case into Federal court rather than PA state court.

I'm pretty sure she won't get a nickel. The arrest had nothing to do with her arm being amputated.

yes, lifetime expenses in prosthetics is enormous.

Working in a restaurant, its safe to assume no healthcare.

If that's not a typo then her attorney is an idiot.

4:36 ???? so if it has to be 75K to get into federal court why not ask for 7.5 million.

Not a lawyer, but as has been pointed out earlier all that is needed to file is to allege damages that meet/exceed the threshold to move the case from PA courts to Federal. Attorney feels there are better prospects, more friendly case law, etc, etc, in the federal venue.

So it's just the opening move; filing can be amended as 'facts' are developed.
