Prince George's County's National Harbor will soon add another attraction to its growing cadre of offerings: the Capital Wheel, a 175-foot Ferris wheel on a dock overlooking the Potomac River.
The wheel will have 42 climate-controlled gondolas which each seat eight people. Peterson Cos., the developer of National Harbor, will spend $15 million to build the wheel and expects between 600,000 and 800,000 people to ride the wheel per year. It's expected to open in May.
“The Capital Wheel will be a new icon for the National Capital region, a family-friendly yet sophisticated magnet for area residents, U.S. and global tourists alike,” Peterson Cos. Chairman Milt Peterson said in a statement. "The Capital Wheel will be a tremendous complement to the existing shopping, dining and lodging options at National Harbor and further drive visitation to Prince George’s County and the state of Maryland.”

P.G. County , drive through and get mugged , can't wait to ride this wheel. NOT!
Land of the crooks! yo Mamma!
It sounds safe, but people look like ants from that height.
2:38 I am sure you never cross the bay bridge but The national Harbor is extremely nice with almost no crime. You probbaly couldn't afford to stay there anyway.
Stole the idea from London UK where their wheel has been operating since 2000.
hey 3:06
I grew up in P.G. , moved here 40 years ago when I made my first million.
Dream on , working my 10th million this year , P.G. County land of the crooks and thugs.
I won't cross the bridge unless I have a death in my family. Know need for that aggrevation.
354-I'm sure you're not lying.
3:06 WHAT???? The National Harbor was DOA. There is crime there and always has been. Vandalism huge. They try to say it's in Ft Washington because that's a little better area but it's really in Oxon Hill. It's an unruly place on Fri and Sat night because all the teen agers go there.
It's not that expensive because it's tacky and no one with money even goes there as they prefer to shop on 5th Ave in NYC.
I'm right with you 3:54. We even still own a home in Northern VA that sits vacant 364 days a year because I hate it so much up there. No one really wants to be there and are stuck because of work. Everyone wants me to find them a place like we have here which is nearly impossible because we are on 400 acres with a driveway nearly a mile long. The people up there are starved for privacy.
3:06 PG county aint nothing to aspire to. Drive by this behemoth 9harbor) on a regular basis and never had the urge to stop, just like fedex field another white elephant. the harbor is what a 1/2 mile from Anacostia? yeah sign me up! NOT!
The National Harbour is horrible. Of course if you like the atmosphere of contrived facades and chain restaurants and other chain businesses then you will be of the same opinion as 3:06 and most likely feel right at home.
But what do I know. I've only lived in a number of places in my 50 years, including and not limited to France, Switzerland and Monaco.
Salisbury is supposed to get one next year in time for the Salisbury Festival. Yes, our own ferry wheel.
Oh, wow! A bird's-eye view of the crap floating in the Potomac! If you think the Wicomico River is full sh** the Potomac is 10 times worse.
We stayed there on two occasions for a Beatlefestival and that is the only reason I would go. From the first year to the second after the shows closed and we left the National Harbor to get something to eat the people on the streets went from regular bar hoppers to people throwing up of the main street and loud music blasting from cars. Won't go back and couldn't afford it if I wanted to. Beware the radar on the beltway I have a ticket for $150.00 and that was 6miles over the limit.

Send Joe and email with contact info and I will do the same. Have a property your friends might like that's for sale. 300" of waterfront, last property on a private road off a dead end road. 5 acres with 20 acres next door that can never be developed.
Isn't that special? $15 a head for a 90 second ride. How long will it take to load all the 8 passenger gondolas?
No wonder they want to raise the minimum wage; it's so folks can afford to take a spin!
And how nice the 'bury will be getting a ferry wheel, Ferris wheel or fairy wheel.
Mayor Ireton is a fairy wheel!
I read about a very old merry go round that is somewhere in Md.One of the oldest or THE oldest in the country. Some amusement park on the western shore.

The merry-go-round in the old section of Trimpers OC/arcade dates back to 1912. I don't know if it is the oldest, but if you haven't expeirenced it, it would be worth the trip. For me, it's kind of neat to ride a ride I rode when I was a kid some 50 years ago.
Just sharing...
