Md. Mayor Proposes Changes In Public Comments

People who go to government meetings just to talk to their elected officials will like the city of Frederick's new rules.

At a workshop Wednesday, Mayor Randy McClement suggested changing the city's procedure to allow for public comments at the beginning and the end of each meeting. Before this, comments were only allowed at the time of each public hearing agenda item and at the end of the meeting.

The aldermen saw no problem with the change as long as officials apply the same rules to all who speak.

Alderwoman Donna Kuzemchak said that numerous times she saw residents, including herself, treated unfairly when they came to speak at board meetings.
