Hobby Lobby stores and Conestoga Wood Specialties are among dozens of large firms with religious devout owners who say the “contraception mandate” tied to the Affordable Care Act infringes on their right to religious freedom.
The Obama administration asked the high court to review the issue after a federal appeals court in Colorado found in favor of Hobby Lobby Oklahoma-based crafts franchise, setting up a closely watched face-off that will decide if for-profit company may, in effect, practice religion in line with its owners’ deeply held beliefs — even if it thwarts rules from Washington.
