Maryland's Health Services Cost Review Commission is recommending that hospitals hold the line on costs for patient care.
The decision this week would apply to the first six months of 2014.
A formal vote on the plan is set for early next month.
The state panel that sets hospital rates gave most hospitals permission for a 1.65 percent increase in the current fiscal year.
There would be no increase from January through June.

This panel is so very wrong. They have supported inpatient bed care far too long, while ignoring outpatient care. That is why Maryland healthcare is in so much trouble. All the docs are hooked on admitting patients, when the entire system is going the other way. Most hospitals have to shed beds, which means significant layoffs. This whole mess is a huge lack of leadership at all Maryland hospitals
How will they hold costs at current levels if minimum wage is raised to $10/hr. Last I looked wages are a cost. Does one side of government not talk to the other.
Wait, didn't PRMC tell the public things would turn around when Maryland allowed them to raise their rates? Looks like more layoffs at PRMC very soon
Question. Just who is the Maryland Health Service Cost Recommendation Committee and who voted them into this position. I'll bet they were appointed by a liberal Democrat, and approved by O'Malley. I really don't give a rats ass on their opinion. The free market will adjust itself without government interference.
