(BERLIN, MD) – Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal Worcester County crash that occurred when two teenaged brothers crossed a highway on foot tonight into the path of an oncoming trooper’s patrol car.
The trooper is identified as Trooper Nicholas Hager, 21, a one year veteran assigned to the Berlin Barrack. Tpr. Hager was transported by Maryland State Police personnel to Atlantic General Hospital due to injuries sustained during the crash.
One teenager was transported by ambulance to Atlantic General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. He is identified as Tymeir D. Dennis, 16, of the 10800 block of Maple Court, Berlin, Maryland.
His brother was transported at Peninsula Regional Medical Center prior to being transferred by air to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center for treatment. He is identified as Tyheym D. Bowen.
The preliminary investigation indicates that at about 8:00 p.m. yesterday, a state trooper assigned to the Berlin Barrack was on routine patrol in his unmarked patrol car. The trooper was headed northbound on Rt. 113 approaching Bay Street. For reasons unknown at this time, the two brothers crossed Rt. 113 from east to west, in the area of Bay Street. They ran directly into the path of the approaching patrol car.
The trooper attempted to take evasive action, but was unable to avoid striking both youths. He immediately called for emergency medical services and began to provide emergency care to both teens.
One victim was taken by ambulance to Atlantic General Hospital. The other was taken by the ambulance to Peninsula Regional Medical Center. He was later transported by air to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center for treatment. The trooper was taken by state police personnel to the Atlantic General Hospital.
Command staff from the Berlin Barrack responded to the scene to oversee the ongoing investigation. There has been no determination of speed at this time. The investigation is being conducted by the Maryland State Police Crash Team. The investigation continues.

Oh geez. What a heck of a thing to read first thing in the morning. So sad when one of our young persons is taken from us esp so suddenly without warning. Praying for all those involved.
Black youths in dark clothing. I almost hit two last night on State street in Delmar and I was going 25mph.
Who wrote this article?
Whatever... now lets hear the real story.
"oversee the ongoing investigation" or colluded to cover up details of police malfeasance, reckless and inattentive driving.
I'd bet the 21 year old trooper was on his cell phone.
have the riots started yet?
A 1 year veteran? In an unmarked patrol car? Wow, things have changed!
Anon 8:11 AM
How about pointing out that the two were crossing the highway illegally in front of the moving traffic? I have it you suggest we all should move 30 mph in attempt to avoid crushing into the project residents crossing the road as they please.
Damn Cell Phones! I bet a cell phone was involved somewhere in this story.
What's the big deal about the speed anyway?
Look both ways and live more days!

Cop hater.
People must realize, Highways are't meant for foot traffic. Sorry for the family and the Trooper will have to live with this for the rest of their lives.
Cop hater.

shut up damn
9:27, why does that make him a cop hater. You can bet your a** there is no way that MSP is going to come out and say the trooper was speeding. When's the last time anybody saw a trooper doing anywhere close to the speed limit on a major highway?? I would almost guarantee that he was on his cell phone or messing around on his laptop as well.
I got behind a Maryland State Police cruiser yesterday on Rt 113 as I was on my way to work in Berlin. The trooper was driving the speed limit of 55 mph and when the speed limit drops to 50 mph just about at the Berlin Lion's Club he dropped his speed down to 50. I know this because I had to follow him all the way to work and I was worried I might be late. So...to answer your question 10:16 AM, the last time anyone saw a trooper doing anywhere close to the speed limit was yesterday morning, November 8, at approximately 8:25 AM. And you're a cop hater and obviously an idiot.
Instead of blasting motorists we been to teach people how to cross a street. I don't know of any pedestrian safety course around but there should be as well as one should carry a pedestrian certification card.
11 AM has got to be a Liberal
No 11:21 most liberals are the pedestrians.
Just today I was coming up by city park in Salisbury and this black kid walks right out in front of my car as if he owns the street. I blew the horn at him and he gave me the finger - no cross walk as if he was testing me to see if I would stop for him! Granted I was only going 25 mph but he still does not have the right to walk out in front of me!
I cant get over the fact that a 21 yr old is considered mature enough to be a state trooper
It's about time for Annie to chime in.
I guess you don't remember why those
wreaths are at the crossover by the Berlin MSP barracks, or the deaths in St Michaels, or the death on the Nanticoke bridge. At least that Trooper was charged. No I'm not a cop hater. I'm just a citizen who no longer respects these goons that go around beating people for sport. Not all mind you, but one apple.......
4:28 come back to planet earth. Most police related accidents are fault of the other driver/peds. The vast majority of ped related accidents are the fault of the ped.
4:28 - someone was beaten? That part of the article must have been written in invisible ink because I sure as hell don't remember reading that. Ok so it was a trooper that hit those kids. What if it had been a nurse or a teacher, would it make this situation any less tragic? No, of course not. A person lost their life, a family in our community is dealing with a crisis, and a man's life will never, ever be the same again. So stop pointing fingers, this world is a crazy place and 5 minutes from now you could find yourself in the same position and I'm sure you'd appreciate a little understanding. You are a cop hater and an idiot. Grow up.
The remaining brother and his parents should be charged and held liable for this incident. The boys were crossing the street illegally.
For all y'all that's saying its the boys fault should stop now. That was my family. My blood. Practically family. It dont matter whos fault it is. A family nd a community is torn apart nd all you care about it whos fault it is. One life is gone. And one will hardly be able to function tthe way he use to. Yeah the cop was 21 but hes alive. My lil cousin wont see 17. Think bout whats happening now not what happened
9:15-So sorry about what happened to your cousins.
9:15 posse up and take care of business then, if you think it's justified.
If you think you can prove negligence, go to the States attorney and request a subpoena for the cop's phone and computer records.
9:15...which is it? Family/blood...or...practically family?
I'm with 11:47 and call b.s. 9:15!
Tragic yes, but if you dont have the common sense to not run into traffic by the age of 16, there is little that can be said in the pedestrians defense.
Even if the cop was doing 120 miles an hours I am sure his headlights were on and in the dark you would have to be blind not to see a car coming.
Its still a tragedy and all cops still suck.
The onethat was killed was my cousin. His brother the kne that got injured was just like family
First I would like to express my deepest sympathy to the family that lost their son and who are now dealing with the amputation of the surviving brother. He is still fighting for his life.
I don't care whose fault this is. One young man is dead and his brother is permanently injured and is not out of the woods yet. The facts are that the Mayor and Council of Berlin need to provide safe crossing over Rt. 113.
In regard to the MSP, I have to say I travel a lot and VERY rarely do I see an MSP traveling the speed limit. Furthermore, I rarely see anyone doing the speed limit through Berlin and it is not very well enforced.
18 is old enough to go to war for your country you idiot!!!!! Age was not a factor. You need young blood in law enforcement to deal with the crazy people in our world.
I saw a msp trooper obeying the law once then I woke up and realized I was just dreaming!
I remember traveling east on rt. 50 near Walmart. A trooper had pulled along side of me. My daughter said look she's (the trooper) texting. We were in a pick up so we had a perfect view.
