Around 8 p.m. on Friday, a Maryland State Police trooper on routine patrol in an unmarked patrol car was headed north on Route 113 approaching Bay Street when he collided with two local teenage brothers. According to MSP reports, for reasons unknown at this time, the two brothers crossed Route 113 from east to west in the area of Bay Street and ran directly into the path of the approaching MSP patrol car.
The trooper attempted to take evasive action, but was unable to avoid striking both teens. The trooper, identified as Nicholas Hager, 21, a one-year veteran assigned to the MSP Berlin barrack, immediately called for emergency medical services and began to provide emergency care to both teens.

This is the very reason You should always use caution when approaching crosswalks. It doesn't matter who you are.

bound to happen the way some people cross streets and walk IN the street.
God bless the family of the victims and the new trooper that has barely scratched the surface of his career. Tragic accident.
They drive too fast to areas all the time...The crash team should be able to determine this.
The Trooper also known around the barracks as "Speed Bump" appears to have a ruff start in his young carrier.
Were those kids in a marked crosswalk, or jaywalking?

Easy enough to check if the officer was on his cell.If a good attorney gets involved he will definitely check.
Were the kids on there cell phones and were they crossing in the intersection, with the light?
also can check the gps tracking device in the car to see what his speed was. I seldom see a trooper doing the speed limit!

Have you ever, honestly, asked yourself WHY?
And why are so many of you Dickless Tracy's on here anyway?
They are probably reading this right now in their cars driving down the road! But, that's right there expert drivers in the laws do not apply to them! This incident proves that they are no better of a driver than anyone else. The only difference is the Trooper will not get charged not to mention conviced of unintentional vechiclur manslaughter!
Unintentional vehicle manslaughter? what in the hell is that? Tragic accidents happen all the time. This one happened to involve a young MSP Trooper. Considering the 1,000's of miles driven, sometimes at high speeds, whether warranted or not, there will be accidents. Thus far there is no evidence put forth that negligence or excessive speed was a factor. Depending on where the two brothers crossed, the area is not well lit. There is no mention of the clothing the boys were wearing, or of any other conditions that may have contributed. Like them or not, they are the one's you don't hesitate to call when you become a victim.
It is too soon to have all the facts. I do know in Salisbury teens cross the street all the time either on cells or just with the mindset nothing will happen to me I'm going to live forever and things just happen to others. Well some in the graveyards thought the very same thing. Everyone in traffic needs to be careful of others not just you.
There is no crosswalk at this busy foot traffic area. That is the problem. There is nothing to alert drivers that people are on foot and crossing the highway.
Shame on you Berlin Mayor and Council!
