Walmart Foundation Awards $37,000 Grant To Salisbury Nonprofit

SALISBURY (September 19, 2013) – Today, the Walmart Foundation announced it will provide a $37,000 grant to Maintaining Active Citizens Inc. (MAC) through the Foundation’s State Giving Program. The grant will support the nonprofit’s principle that older individuals are entitled to dignity, security, physical, mental, and social well-being; and to full participation in society. The donation will specifically go toward supporting the organization’s Lower Eastern Shore Meals on Wheels and Senior Center lunch programs.

“We are committed to providing older persons with a full range of services which allow them to live a routine life and our Meals on Wheels program is an integral part of that commitment,” said MAC representative Carolyn Stegman. “The Walmart Foundation’s generous grant ensures that waitlisted individuals can become full participants of the Meals on Wheels program. The donation also assures that meal delivery remains at four days a week.”

Last year, MAC delivered close to 65,000 meals to homebound frail and vulnerable seniors, and provided just over 32,000 lunches in one day respite center and 12 senior centers throughout Dorchester, Somerset, Wicomico and Worcester counties. Due to funding cuts including sequestration reductions, the waitlist for Meals on Wheels had increased.

“The Walmart Foundation understands that organizations such as Maintaining Active Citizens Inc. are essential to building stronger communities,” said Nina Albert, Director of Community Affairs for Walmart. “We are hopeful that MAC members are positively affected by this grant and the Foundation’s impact is largely felt.”

The Walmart Foundation’s State Giving Program supports organizations that create opportunities so people can live better, awarding grants that have a long-lasting, positive impact on communities in Maryland and across the U.S.

To be considered for support, prospective grantee organizations must submit applications through the Walmart Foundation State Giving Program’s online grant application. Applicants must have a current 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status in order to meet the program’s minimum eligibility criteria. Additional information about the program’s funding guidelines and application process are available online at www.walmartfoundation.org/stategiving.

"Maintaining Active Citizens"? What the hell is that? It used to be "Maintenance of the Aged in the Community" but I guess that's not politically correct anymore.

It's also too long and derogatory. Regardless, who the hell cares as long as they get help
