It soon could cost 49 cents to mail a letter.
The postal Board of Governors said Wednesday it wants to raise the price of a first-class stamp by 3 cents, citing the agency’s “precarious financial condition” and the uncertain prospects for postal overhaul legislation in Congress.
“Of the options currently available to the Postal Service to align costs and revenues, increasing postage prices is a last resort that reflects extreme financial challenges,” board chairman Mickey Barnett wrote customers.

Just like there's a chance the price won't go up.They need to just shut up and do it since they will anyway.
THey should just add 1/2 cent to junk mail. It would raise even more money.
Whats the Postal Service? Havent used the outdated service in five years now. As they keep raising rates, more and more people stop using them. Just another government run failure.
Charge junk mail the same as regular mail. Then charge for home delivery. Case closed.
Just go ahead and raise it to a dollar. That would solve the problem for at least 3 or 4 months.. Might even cut down on the "junk" mail.?
I'm with you, 343! Mail is mail! All still needs sorting and trucks to deliver it. If all mail paid 4x cents, the post office would be profitable.
Last year, read on yahoo or maybe it was SBYNEWS that stamps were going to be raised again in 2013.The wife and I went out and bought 100.00 dollars of forever stamps. Now we have enough to last about 18/24 months. Go buy some stamps people quick.
What is postage stamps?
They now have a new stamp with Obama's picture on it. It wont stick to the envelope because people are spitting on the wrong side.
yep they are pricing themselves right out of business. They have driven more and more people to using the internet.
Someone with diplomatic skills should speak with USPS employees and convince them to take a 20% pay reduction.Jobs would be secure forever and pensions safe.Under current tax laws they really would only be relinquishing about 10% of their take home pay because of a lower tax bracket.
