Watch Land Rover Being Destroyed

WASHINGTON - A Land Rover Defender that had been seized at the Baltimore seaport has now been destroyed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers.

The vehicle, worth $25,000 overseas, but with a U.S. resale value of $150,000, was seized because it violated federal highway standards, including lack of airbags. It was destroyed at an undisclosed facility.

In a statement, Customs and Border Protection officials say dozens of Land Rovers have been stopped in recent months at ports of entry in Philadelphia, Norfolk, Va., Charleston, S.C., Savannah, Ga., Jacksonville, Fl., Houston, and Tacoma, Wa.

so Mich for American freedom. Why stop this?

Does this mean that the government can take my historic vehicles and crush them because when they were built no one had ever thought of air bags.

Because it doesn't meet our amazing safety standards. #1 in the world there.

So have air bags installed! Only if the buyer wants them, of course. Sheesh.

This is really dumb. They could have stripped it and sold the parts and made a lot of money for the taxpayers.

Didn't either of you read the article and watch the video? The paperwork and vin number were forged. They took a 2005 model and tried to make it look like it was an older vehicle so it would be exempt from certain safety laws.

Airbags being one of the requirements.
