I guess the "Family" considered itself above the law with no need to do what is right in addition to being court ordered. The taxpayers/citizens need to finally wake up and remove the "Family" their political holdings. Let's face it, if you were to look the definition of "nepotism" in the dictionary it would only have a three word definition: "SOMERSET COUNTY MARYLAND". It's very sad that the taxpayers have to burden the ill conceived & illegal actions of the "Family".

No matter what the topic is the Simpkins clan ALLWAYS knows a better way. They think they are the elite of Somerset Co. when in fact they and their leiutenants are no more than the ordinary garden variety back-woods rube found in every Hazard Co. in the U.S. They had a chance to settle with Durham but it HAD TO BE on the terms of Mr. 'KNOW IT ALLS INC.', Kirk & Rex Simpkins. NOW its going to cost THREE TIMES as much NOT COUNTING Somerset Cos.legal representation because Kirk Simpkins CAN`T represent the taxpayers in Federal Court. When there is a vote, right or wrong the same three vote together so the other two are held helpless.
I am certainly happy ALL YOU VOTERS in Somerset are getting JUST what YOU Voted for. You wonder WHY? Somerset is NO MORE PROGRESSIVE than it is? Here`s your answer. Kirk Simpkins brother to REX.Termite Taylor (I love the high school pet names)cousin of Rex.Betsy Simpkins Shrock, cousin of Rex, and it goes on and on.
Well, you guys rely on the wisdom of Rex and I`ll paddle my own boat and we will see who fares the best. Ha,Ha.

The commissioners were successful so many time in the past protecting the likes of Jim Henderson, Kristy Hickman, etc that they thought they could get away with anything. Fortunately this case has finally caught up with them. Good luck Troy.

I also agree that it's time to replace all county elected officials next election unless we can impeach them first.

I say start at the top and rid Somerset County of Taylor, and the rest of those so called officials...

Glad I moved from Somerset County and am proud to be a Delaware resident now.

1:01 - I second that as well. I moved to Sussex County and I'm extremely pleased with the common sense approach in dealing with county issues that our elected, and not family bloodline, officials utilize on a daily basis. I was born, raised & educated in Somerset County and know most everybody. There are definite double standards coupled with a distinct air of arrogance where the "Family" is concerned. Let's face it, if this was anywhere else, the nepotism and negative actions of a select few would not be tolerated. The problem with Somerset County is that most of the electorate are ill informed and the "Family" has created its own miniature nanny state. All one has got to do is take a reasonable, educated and fair look at the sheriff, judge of the Orphans Court, the county attorney, the president of the county commissioners & the county administrator and if this is the best Somerset County can do then so be it but I think we all know the truth that there are better qualified and good honest people to fill these positions. A name does not ensure quality leadership or good moral standards which is now so painfully obvious as we can now see and realize the ramifications of the lack of common sense, the lack of qualification, the arrogance, the rampant nepotism, the lack of moral compass, the lack of decent leadership and the overall failure that the county officials demonstrate on a daily basis. Change is way overdue.

What happened?? They should have been cited for "contempt of court".

When Doug Taylor was hired the advertised requirement was a college degree, Quess what? Surprise. He doesnt't have any college. When the new Director of the Roads Dept. was hired the advertised requirement was an engineering background. Guess what? No engineering only misquito control. I could cite several more examples.
