Maryland is the 29th most expensive state in the U.S. to operate a motor vehicle, according to a report released Wednesday.
The study from Bankrate.com says Marylanders pay an average of $3,158 per year to operate their car. That comes in just below the national average of $3,201.
The report accounts for the cost of gasoline, insurance, repairs, taxes and fees.
Neighboring Virginia is No. 9 on the list at $3,622. Pennsylvania is 44th at $2,764 and Delaware is 38th at $2,846. West Virginia ranks 21st, with average car costs of $3,293
