Jack’s Gelato Confirms Teen’s Entrepreneurial Spirit

OCEAN CITY -- Ocean City has a long-standing tradition of providing summer jobs to teenagers. Few go as far as 13-year-old Jack Fager, however, and start their own business.

Beginning in late-April, Fager opened Jack’s Gelato on 59th Street. With only one other employee, the gelato stand operates seven days a week from 4 until 10 p.m.

“It is a lot to do setting up and getting the machines ready and just a lot to get started,” Fager said.

But running his own business before going into the eighth grade is more than worth the work, he added. And even though he’s only 13, operating a business has been a goal for as long as he can remember, said Fager, a student at Worcester Preparatory School.

Does Fager's Island on 59th Street ring a bell? This kid didn't just do this on his own.

sounds like a PR stunt from his rich daddy. gimme a break, a 13 yr old cannot open and operate a business, it's illegal.

3:07. Read the whole article. Pretty up front about support from his family.

I did read the entire article, but just in case everyone else didn't. Just like 3:59 PM says it is a PR stunt. How many average citizens can watch their 13 y/o open their own business. I will answer that for you. Absolutely none.

I think this is very creative, but your OBAMA voters will say negative sheet about this article.

You sound a bit jealous. I think it's great that his family is spending the time and money to teach this child about life. Would you rather him just run around OC causing problems? How many adults go to family to get help to open a business. Maybe you are unhappy he didn't have to go to a bank and get a loan. Do you work in lending?

Put paid parking outside Jack's stand! OC needs the money to make payroll!

It's not unusual for children of business owners to have an entrepreneurial spirit.

Can't knock a lucky sperms hustle. Good for you jack, you could just be a misfit like several other wealthy kids of business in OC, instead you a working for yourself.

Many kids born with a silver spoon in their mouths end up on the wrong side of the law because they never really have to work for anything.

@ 5:07...you are correct--the Libs will call this 13 year old an evil 1 percenter...

Hope he hits it big. Better than the other "entrepreneurs" at WPS who make ends meet selling coke.

whether he comes from money or not, he is 13 and working! I know a lot of kids that have never worked a day before they graduated from college! then they wonder why they have problems getting a job! Ten years from now I'd take a chance on this kid before one with no work experience!

The best thing a parent can ever show and give a child is a work ethic.

12:43: I was wondering what to write... You said it best. Thank you.
But I WILL say that there's more than one story about successful entrepreneurs in OC that came to town with just a few bucks in their pocket and made it big. You don't always have to have a moneyed family behind you. More power to this kid. I'll stop by for sure.
