Top Crabs Reign At Bike MS: Chesapeake Challenge

June 1 & 2 cyclists of all abilities will enjoy well-supported routes through scenic Eastern Shore waterfront communities to help create a world free of MS

Easton, MD-. For over 30 years, cyclists have gathered on the Eastern Shore for Bike MS: Chesapeake Challenge in an attempt to raise awareness and funds to end the devastating effects of multiple sclerosis. For one Top Crab- a participant who raises over $1000- the challenge is personal.

For nearly two decades, Robert Tobin’s mother, Mary Ann Tobin, has battled multiple sclerosis. To support a cure for his mother, who he describes as having an unwavering and positive attitude, Tobin established his Chesapeake Challenge team, the Fat Crabs. Since the team’s inception 13 years ago, the Fat Crabs have raised over $300,000.

“Mom is a major role model in my life, a woman of high integrity, humor and love.

My goal is to continue to raise money to support research activities to find a cure for MS,” says Tobin.

Just 40 minutes from Annapolis, Chesapeake Challenge will be held at a new venue in 2013, the Talbot County Community Center in Easton, MD. Participants will enjoy quaint and scenic waterfront communities like Tilghman Island, Oxford, St. Michaels and Trappe. A variety of route options—ranging from 34-100 miles on Saturday, and 30 & 50 mile routes on Sunday-- make Chesapeake Challenge accessible to riders of all abilities. All participants are required to raise $300, most raise significantly more trying to be a Top Crab.

“I know the Fat Crabs are excited to ride a new course, especially one that includes such a great area of Maryland’s Eastern Shore. It should be a fantastic ride,” says Tobin.
