NRA Update
Incoming NRA president, Jim Porter, will lead the legal fight to challenge recent gun laws in several states throughout our nation. The Alabama lawyer will replace current president David Keene. Keene told the Washington Times that Porter is a "perfect match" for the NRA, as it shifts its focus to court-room challenges. Keen said, "as we are likely to win most of the legislative battles in Congress, we will have to move to courts to undo the restrictions placed on gun owners' rights in New York, Connecticut, Maryland, and Colorado." Apparently, the NRA only respects state's rights in those states that refuse to place any limitations on gun sales and ownership. And, they don't respect the 90% of Americans that support background checks and many other modest reforms to keep guns out of the hands of criminals. This is just more evidence that the NRA doesn't work for its members, it only does the bidding of gun manufacturers.

Oh, and to continue and address the issue that 90 % of Americans support background checks. Who said that? And, in order for me to buy a gun, I have to go through a background check. Soooo..... what's missing here? Nothing. Keep chanting nothingness, libs. We see the truth.
It's interesting--the right wing nuts who tend to make comments here are so fast to decry the government at every turn, but seem to refuse the possibility that the NRA is more interested in gun manufacturers positions than what's good for the people. Ah, the lies we tell ourselves for convenience. . .
10:17, What truthful point are you trying to make? We already have background checks. Criminals do not need them in order to steal the guns they use in crimes. So, the other "modest reforms" proposed are 10 round magazines. Does this do anything to keep guns out of the hands of criminals? Or, 30 round magazines, for that matter? No. Would a 10 round magazine limit have stopped 26 from dying at Sandy Hook? That's 2 magazine changes, or about 6 seconds of time. Nope, not there either!
So, of course the NRA supports gun manufacturers, retailers, lawful ownership, and safety training. Just like the National Association of Realtors supports home builders, real estate agents, mortgage lenders and all related to that market. It's a market. it contributes to the economy and tax base.
Criminals who steal guns and use them to rob stores and deal drugs are just as bad as unlicensed contractors working under the table and occasionally bilking money out of people. Neither contributed to the tax base and both hurt the economy.
So, it's the criminal, not the gun, not the NRA,not the licensed businesses that are the problem here. Oh, and idiots like you spewing the lies you spew for your convenience.
Background checks and waiting periods have been effect in Maryland since the 1960s and the rate of violence has only gone up in Maryland. Evidece that they accomplish very little other than to restrict law abiding citizens, you leftist and your undermining of individual right have done more to undermine civil society then my gun.
Gun manufacturers "positions"? Delusional and uniformed. I'd call it a "Constitutional" position.
