OCEAN CITY – During a budget wrap-up session last Friday, discussion over alternative revenues continued with the City Council voting to install new paid parking downtown and on 49th, 131st and 146th streets as well as increasing the weekend rate for the Inlet Parking Lot.
A couple of weeks ago, City Engineer Terry McGean went through the different areas of town that are potential to install Cale machines, or paid parking, to offer alternative revenues in attempts to close the budget gap.
To develop a clearer picture, McGean returned on Friday breaking down the potential streets to begin paid parking. He began with the west side of Philadelphia Ave. from South 1st Street to North Division St., which totals 55 spaces and $35,000 in estimated new revenue. The east side of Philadelphia Ave. in this area was metered a few years back, but the council at that time decided to leave the west side free for downtown employees.

What if they looked at their payroll structure instead? A bunch of overpaid high level clowns if you ask me. Keep screwing the tourists and they will quit coming back. We'll see what the Gov cutbacks do to business from DC this year. Hopefully NY and NJ demand will make up for it.
I have watched yearly as the attendance on the boardwalk has diminished. Don't believe the press about the large crowds, that's a lie. The prices for parking, french fries, amusements, are a joke. Tourist's may be suckered; but the locals have stopped going to Ocean City.
USMC is correct. Vacancy signs are all up and down Coastal Hwy all summer long. Didn't use to be that way. This happens when voters elect dip$hit councils who only know how to nickel and dime the golden goose tourists to death.
An article last year in an online travel magazine showed the prices of room rates, food, beer, snacks, and entertainment costs, they determined that Ocean City in now the most expensive resort area on the lower east coast! The one thing that pushed it over the top, mandatory block time room rental. It said no other resort requires a minimum stay, and the $400.00 a night for the 4th. Of July week! I myself go to Myrtle Beach and stay in a luxury condo on the beach for $75.00 a night, see a few country music shows, have wonderful places to eat real fresh seafood for a very low cost, have several places that are educational for the kids, for entertainment when it’s raining. The “Strand” for shopping, a nice Paddleboat ride through a natural setting to see loads of wildlife and eat a great meal. The best part, none of the wild young kids screaming from cars, the drunks everywhere around Seacrets, the puking drunks on the boardwalk, the stink of puke and beer on the beach. OC is way run down; it still looks and is like a time warp of the 1960’s. Not much has changed or been improved in 50 years!
Welcome to the Eastern shore 5:51 PM!
