Public Outcry, Crash Data Leads To Traffic Light Decision Being Overturned

SNOW HILL -- One troubled intersection in the south end of Worcester County will receive a traffic light by mid-summer, according to the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT).

While MDOT and the State Highway Administration (SHA) had previously opposed a light in favor of installing J-turns, public outcry persuaded MDOT to re-evaluate the need for a traffic signal at the intersection of Routes 113 and 12 near Snow Hill.

The decision was widely lauded by representatives on the Eastern Shore like Delegate Mike McDermott (R-38B), who has stressed in the past the high rate of accidents and fatalities at the intersection.

The traffic light is only temporary. They will still install the J-turns and then remove the traffic light.

I sure hope not. Once the traffic light is in place, it should remain.

The ones that are alive, did.

I agree that drivers should learn how to cross the road. But the fact is they aren't paying enough attention to their driving and other folks are paying the price!

The lights should be temporary - they will impede traffic flow when it is most needed...just look at 50 coming from the land of the Annapaholes - there are only lights on this side of the bridge - and they screw up traffic every weekend for folks going back and forth - let alone the folks that live here for real....the other side has interchanges....that is what should be done....

I doubt you calling them Annapaholes will get anything done. Try to be more open-minded and understand just how much of a government waste it would be to do $10 million interchanges all the way down the Eastern Shore, not to mention all the suffering it will cause businesses in Easton, Trappe and Cambridge.
