REALLY, MR. DAY, 30 MORE SALISBURY POLICE OFFICERS?
At a recent candidates’ forum, Jacob Day said that our police force should be increased by thirty additional officers despite the declining rate of violent crime in Salisbury. His basis for that position is the view of Police Chief Barbara Duncan that they are needed. Apparently she also says that the cost would be about $100,000 each (that’s $3 Million total) per year.
Even with his multiple academic degrees, Mr. Day apparently has not learned that public officials, especially those who provide public safety services, always say that they need more troops. And even police chiefs seldom get what they feel is appropriate, with the possible exception of Birmingham’s famed T. Eugene “Bull” Connor.
With all of the other monetary demands on the City and its shrinking property tax base, we can’t afford to have Mr. Day on the Council.
And the effort of Debbie Campbell that has resulted in better police pay levels has begun to prevent attrition to other jurisdictions. She is a diligent and fiscally prudent member of the Council who should be reelected.
But, getting back to the subject, Day has not said where the additional police pay would come from, and he is too savvy to refer to Louise Smith’s go-to suggested source of funds: “grants.” Of course there’s that so called surplus of $16 Million, which would soon be exhausted. Or perhaps he would move to tweak that proposed new tax that his idol Ireton calls a “stormwater utility” by a few million dollars per year.
And exactly what is his position on what would be a new tax of nearly $19 Million annually to aid in restoration of the Bay? Do you even wonder? After all, Day says that he strongly supports the mayor, works for an environmental advocacy group and is supported by a prominent local environmental activist.
In conclusion, putting it plainly, Day is dangerous and would be a disaster for Salisbury residents if part of a Council majority with Mitchell and Shields, with Ireton as mayor.

A scenario that should scare every taxpayer who votes into making sure it doesn't happen.
Imagine Laura Mitchell as council president. How's that for a fright? Want to go THERE for the next 2 1/2 years? If Day is voted in, that's where we will go.
Holy Cow! What is this naive and inexperienced young kid's justification for this huge increase!?
"Day says that he strongly supports the mayor, works for an environmental advocacy group and is supported by a prominent local environmental activist."
He works for an environment group and his own home town river looks like hell!
As far as a "prominent" local environmental activist this certainly can not be true. No real local environmentalist would ever have let that river get so trashed without making a hugh public stink over it. Fake wanna be environmenalist maybe. Sure would like to know who this person is because they do not deserve to be recognized as an environmentalist.

Day says that 30 more cops are needed because Chiefy Duncan wants them. She probabbly would like to have a police boat and armored personnel carrier also.
If crime has gone down with the police force that is in place then why is there a need for additonal officers? Just because the police chief says there is?
What's he going to do--- everytime someone saids to him jump he's going to say how high? It's his job to find out why not jump carte blache on every cart that drives in front of him.
As far as I can see, Mr. Day doesn't even have a real job. The National Guard is part time and I assume his "appointed" activities are too. To quote Biden, Day or even Mitchell for that mater have any "skin in the game".

That "prominent" person may be Michael Pretl, who lives in Riverton on the Nanticoke River and is active in the Wicomico Environmental Trust. He has donated to Day's campaign.
If Ms. Duncon needs more troops, why didn't she speak to Ireton and the Council before this? Like mamma used to say, if it smells like BS, it probably is.

Please, Jakey Day is a big time urban planner with a certificate from a college in England to prove it!
If crime is down 40%, why on earth would we want 30 more officers? We were having problems paying the officers we have now.

Except no one knows what he's planned nor in what towns except for the Bennett Memorial Garden and then after that endeavor not a mention of anything else-if any of his planning was implimented and the results.
Day is a typical overeducated liberal who thinks that he knows it all.
Day is a FLIP/FLOPER and will say anything for a vote what a idiot.
Grants, Grants grants! Again with the grants! Ireton and gang crew always want to apply for more grants to help pay for things.
whether Federal or State, grants are, at best a temporary fix to a solution. Are they aware how much paperwork is required to get a grant? Are they aware how many stings come attached with a grant?
Actually, I'll bet they are- submitting to state and federal dollars is a way to push the progressive agenda through the back door. as in, "it want ME who required [insert odious environmental regulation here] it was the Feds! We have to do it to qualify for this grant!"
Would you rather have Salisbury suck at the teat of the [increasingly unstable] State or would you rather bring business here and generate revenue through legitimate but low taxes?
The choice is your Salisbury. Be ruled by a businessman or be ruled by an academic.
Grants are good for one time hist. The problem is just like the boat there are a bunch of moving forward costs that the grant will not pay for . The grant covers the first payment then the taxpayers have to cover the rest.
11:32- Doesnt matter. All they have to do is get the grant, say, "SEE? I brought in [x] number of new police officers!!!" The average low information voter is too short minded to see that we have to now raise the cash to pay for those officers once the grant runs out. The voters get the shaft and the politician gets a campaign talking point.
There's just one problem with this LTE -the person who called for 30 new officers was Jack Heath, not Jake Day.

Speaking of the S.S. Hoppes the fire boat has been here over a year and has yet to make it's maiden voyage on a real fire.
The best thing the city could do is dump that abortion as soon as possible and stay with something like they already had. Does anyone know where the old fire boat went? Did Ireton sell it to any of his buddies for $1?
S.S LIARTON.....A SINKING SHIP.
This and a few others should be at the top. If Ms. Campbell loses the election I won't be voting for Joe Albero because it will be a waste of time. You think there is fighting now, the Council majority with President Mitchell, Jerk Day and Shamey Shields will pluck Joe's last nerve. Everything Joe does will be shot down. Every appointment will be shot down. Not even worth going to the polls in April if Ms. Campbell loses. Every article on here from now and tomorrow evening should be pro Debbie Campbell. A win for Debbie is a win for Joe's campaign. Wake Up!!
Speaking of Hoppes can someone please enlighten us on the status of the acting fire chief and has Ireton submitted another name yet? What happens after the extension ends on Feb. 28? Who with then be the acting fire chief?
I have said it from Day One! He is too young, too inexperienced and naive to handle such an important job! No matter how many degrees he has, immaturity does not make for a good council member! He needs to open his eyes, listen to those who have been in civic duties and stop being a YES MAN! I fear his temper (which he gets from his father, another Perdue Yes Man) will get him into hot water and the City of Salisbury will suffer for it!
2PM
I fear that Day would be Perdue's man on the council -- see the major donations to his campaign by the "first family" of that firm.
Mr "GA" Harrison - For once you are wrong. It was Day, not Heath, who called for 30 more cops. Check out the video on Pac-14.
It's been noted that many of Mr. Day's political signs lay on empty lots rather on the property of anyone that necessarily supports him. I have also noticed that many of these signs are planted well outside of Salisbury. I can't vote for Mr. Albero because I am not eligible. However, I can and don't mind sporting promotional material on my car as I drive around. It seems to me that one of the bumper stickers could be scanned and posted on this website such that people like myself could print, cut out, and tape to my car window. Just a thought.

So why is Day not running for a mayor. As an urban planner and a genius in urban design from Oxford he will follow a primary school teacher's - our Super Mayor Ireton - lead?
WHY????
