On Saturday, Jan. 12, the 24-year-old Miss District of Columbia winner will compete with 52 other women for the coveted Miss America Crown at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. She'll flaunt her fit figure in a bikini, grace the stage in an evening gown, and show off her unusual talent for roller figure skating.
Sometime after, she'll undergo a double mastectomy to remove both her breasts as a preventive measure against breast cancer. The disease has already killed three women in her family, including her mother and grandmother.

I just bet I'll get beat up over this comment,but is'nt she putting the cart in front of the horse? Is death so imminent from contracting this cancer that she has to have surgery done before she is tested positive? Being prone to this because of family history is one thing,but there is such a thing as being skipped over genetically.
I read on another news site that she has tested positive for a rare genetic mutation that puts her at high risk for breast cancer. She's getting hate mail for her decision. She doesn't want to die young like the other women in her family. I respect her decision. It's her body & she should do what she feels is best.

I think either she's got a bolt missing (and her father) or she's getting in early on the judges sympathy vote.
Why not have her colon removed to prevent cancer? How about what little is left of her brain?
This is just self mutilation, and I'm shocked that there is a doctors team willing to go along with it.

Sharon Osbourne had the same mutation and removed both of hers after having colon cancer a year or two ago. It's not a question of getting cancer, it's a question of when and what stage it's caught.
