Wicomico County In The Running For A New Website
Wicomico County Executive Rick Pollitt is pleased to announce that Wicomico County is a finalist for the CivicPlus “Extreme Website Makeover 2012” contest. CivicPlus is the leading provider of government website and community engagement software, and is in its 10th edition of the contest.
Executive Pollitt said, “This is an exciting opportunity to expand our growing community outreach through modern technology. An ‘extreme website makeover’ would complement our on-going use of Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to reach a wide range of our citizens.”
This year, citizen participation and involvement will be a factor in determining the Grand Prize winners, so we would like to encourage citizens to go to http://bit.ly/Srt1jE or access the Citizen Engagement Survey from our website, www.wicomicocounty.org, to nominate our community for a chance to win a free, interactive website.
A new CivicPlus website will serve as a beneficial tool for the entire community. Citizens can stay up-to-date on important news and events, learn more about local government from enhanced transparency and increase engagement.
Finalists will have from now, through Friday, January 11, 2013, to gain as much citizen feedback and support as possible. Winners will be notified by Monday, January 21, 2013.
Grand Prize winners will receive:
· A Premium CivicPlus website with custom design, full development and three days of on-site training, for free
· The first two years of annual fees will be waived
In addition to the Grand Prize, there will be runners-up chosen across the country that will receive a $5,000 discount towards their project development fees of a Premium CivicPlus website.
Wicomico County looks forward to our citizen commitment in promoting our county’s website for the “Extreme Website Makeover 2012” contest, provided by CivicPlus. The new website will enhance community engagement and communication between citizens and government.

Do the taxpayers benefit in any way from this "contest" or is it just a feel good thing for Ricky?
I hope it has the link to Maryland Government web site that will show that everyone who get's food stamps in Maryland will see a decrease in them starting in Jan. The utility allowance for those will be lowered, thus causing them to have their food stamps go down. You can thank the state of Maryland for this...don't bash me for it! Of course, this is a heard it from a friend who heard it from a friend post. I tried to find it but the site kept freezing up on me.

Looks like Fat Rick has taken a page out of the Jim Ireton "Look at Me" book with the lame press releases.
This just means we have one of the 10 worst websites in America! Congratulations, Rick!
Surprised no one picked up on the 2 free years deal, sounds like another fire boat, get it all setup and everyone trained and after 2 years tax payers will be on the hook for paying for this, after all the training no one will want to go to another software solution even if it is free.
The release does not state what tax payers will be on the hook for after this "upgrade" expires in 2 years.
Heaven forbid a local company get work from the county to make them a new website.
