Vick’s Flat Tire In Berlin Gives Local Kids A Thrill

BERLIN -- Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick made an unscheduled pit stop in Berlin late last week after getting a flat tire on Route 113 on his way to Virginia and provided a brief thrill for dozens of local young athletes while he waited for a repair.

Vick was with his wife and two girls late last Friday afternoon when he got a flat tire on his Lexus SUV on Route 113 in Berlin. Fortunately for the Vicks, the flat tire occurred across the street from John’s Auto Body and the NFL star walked over to the Berlin body shop to seek assistance.

At first, the body shop employees did not know who Vick was, but owner John Derrickson, an Eagles fan, came over and quickly identified him. While employees worked to get the Lexus back on the road, Carmella Solito, owner and operator of Twisters Gymnastics nearby, came over to see what was going on and why the vehicle was blocking her driveway. When Solito learned it was Vick, she invited the family into her gym to visit around 100 young athletes while they waited for the repair.

I don't know why anyone would want their young athletes to meet him. He is not a role model he is a common street thug that can play football. The man beat electrocuted and drowned dogs with his own hands. Why would anyone want their children to look up to that. We as a society put way to much importance on athletes such as football players they same way we do celebriities. Why don't we put more importance on things that matter.

Anon 8:34, when I read about this earlier this week, I was thinking the same thing but couldn't put it into words. You said it perfectly.

8:34pm - Give the guy a break. He has served his time and has made the effort to be a better person in society. If you believe in a second chance, let him have the opportunity.

I agree 9:51. He is committed to the HSUS to help end dog fighting and he is an inspiration to others that you can turn your life around.

you people make me laugh, I'm not a fan of vick but lets be serious about this half the world eats dogs! You're just fortunate enough you don't have to. The nfl is filled with bigger idiots who beat their wives drive drunk are involved in night club shoot outs and repsonsible in one way or another for the deaths of other individuals, and they don't give up half of what this man had to give up! get real!

8:34 I agree with you. Why would you want your children to look up to someone like that? It sends the message that you can do illegal things and still be deemed a hero. If a person is a public figure, it is their responsibility to set a good example for our youth. To me Michael Phelps is another bad example.

Well, I bet everybody on this conversation has their own stand and I can see everybody's point. Anyways, he might have done something not good in the eyes of others but eventually, he turn away from those things as time goes by. Many people have done things that are worst than his, yet they are forgiven and given chances.
