Here We Go Again, The Daily Times Re Writes History

Jennifer Foxwell & Tracey Powell Meet Our Maryland Legislators

If only the Daily Times had spent the kind of time they should have on the original story in Annapolis about Sarah Foxwell and the real hero's behind the new legislation in Maryland referencing sex offenders.

In today's Daily Times there were a lot of names mentioned but not really the ones who had done all the hard work to get the new legislation passed.

We'll start with Delegate Mike Smigiel. Mike fought so hard in the previous session to get these laws better, as did Delegate Jim Mathias. Unfortunately it took Sarah Foxwell's death to really gain the attention these new laws deserved, along with her Mother Jennifer Foxwell and Aunt Tracey Powell.

I think we can all agree, if you look back at our original Posts about the history of this story, without Jennifer Foxwell and Tracey Powell, nothing would have changed.

Of course there's no mention whatsoever in today's article of their participation but maybe that's because their reporters are what we might call virgins to Salisbury and the Eastern Shore.

You can click on the title above or simply type in Sarah Foxwell or Jennifer Foxwell in the search bar in the top left hand corner of this Blog and see the REAL history behind who and what made such a historic change in sex offender laws in the state of Maryland.

My hat will forever be tipped legislative wise to Mike Smigiel, Jim Mathias, Norm Conway and Governor Martin O'Malley. Putting aside our personal differences, this could NOT have been done without Jennifer Foxwell and Tracey Powell. I don't think you'll find ANY state representative who would deny such a statement.

It's a shame the Daily Times ignored their participation and chose instead to re write history.

I read the article today. All I could think of was the DT's is plugging Matt and Mike for the next election.

Joe I remember all of this and how you followed this story. You also helped get these laws passed. What is the deal with The Daily Times?

Mike and Matt are ours Hero's right?

NOT!!!!!

Did you also see their "different views" on the dream act? Every one of them was in favor of giving non-citizens in-state tuition, when folks that live in Delaware, heck just feet from the line in Delmar, will not have access to the same!

I don't get the DT anymore... not worth pi$$ing on. It's not even worth deleting my cookies so I can read 30 more articles. You know why? Finding 30 articles worth reading took me 45 days last time!!!

Now you see - this is exactly what I have been saying about The Daily Times for years. Instead of reporting the news, The Daily Times tries to make the news.

That is why I canceled our household subscription years ago. I used to have a link to Delmarvanow.com and just recently removed it altogether when they went to online subcriptions.

The Daily Times has become a relic, a thing of the past, and the only news they report is mainly Old News.

Joe thanks for reminding us of the truth. Something people can forget just how things happened.

Sarah is forever in our hearts.

Daily Times...is that rag still around? Must be a lot of birdcage floors in Wicomico to keep clean, huh?

16 & 47 are getting worse by the day as well! Go to one article, and all links after reading that one are one week to two months old! One must reload the home page to get current news again, abd usually, there's no more than two or three articles worth your time....

Those idiots will start charging next and then lose their readership as well, since, with the local blogs, we get all our news without their input!

God bless america, and God Bless the Blogs!

I call it "life support" , any news ,even if you have to invent it. They are now drawing straws to exist. DT will be gone shortly.
This is typical in a troubled business , "what news will interest people". This was a bad choice , I don't want to be reminded about this terrible crime.
I don't see any heros !!

And the crazy part is that these same LAWS are in the process of being OVERTURNED as they have been in many states as they conflict with Fed / State Constitution when they made them retroactive so in the long run all they did was waste time yet again in Annapolis for vote grabbing. Many states are not going along with the newer laws as requested by the Feds. for grant money as they have fiqured it would cost millions more to ptu them in effect than they will get back in grants per year and the Laws have not been proven to STOP nothing in way of sex offenses and if they did have any effects why not make a offender list for all types of violent offenses???

Anyone who relies on the Daily Times, WBOC or WMDT for their news is just completely out of touch anyway, their news is always really old or completely twisted to suit themselves so why bother.

6:26 says-"the Laws have not been proven to STOP nothing in way of sex offenses"

Studies have been done on sentencing laws such as the 3 Strikes and other kneejerk "feel good" legislation such as the life sentence for sexual offenders of children.
What happens is the offenders will end up not only sexually abusing a child but then will murder them in an attempt to get rid of the witness. They figure if caught they will go away for life anyway, so it's worth it to them to eliminate the victim.

There needs to be more stringent laws in place, but they need to be thought out and crafted in a way that truly protects children and not just hurriedly pushed through so it looks like lawmakers have done something.
