And this is an example of why you don't tell everyone everything.

Thinking ireton had this one right in not telling. Everyone wants a piece.

Insufficient information. Can't make that decision without knowledge of the current pay scale & benefits...

NO RAISES..some should receive a decrease in salary!!

I bet Lore Chambers feels like she deserves a raise since she just got a generic PhD from UMES and demands to be called "Dr Chambers" now. Does anybody really know what she does for the salary she is given??

On a second thought, Joe, what would you plan on doing with the current Mayor's staff if elected? Are some going, staying or what?

Only if the city can afford it in the years to come without raising taxes.

No. My wages have been frozen for 3 years. And I would be willing to bet that I work a lot harder than most of them.

NO Even in business everyone does not get a raise. Consider tenure, how well the job is completed, attitude, attendance etc.If we spend all this money now how do we keep it up in the coming years.? I KNOW raise taxes,,,always the answer.
Leave some in the bank!

Raises should be based on job performance, not just handed out to everyone.

Right now I would have to say no , I don't have a problem with city workers as some people do , but I would l like the economy to be a lot better than it is .we all have had to take cuts in some way , I personally have not had a raise in 5 years and it does not looking good for the near future .

I don't think the issue is with pay raises, I think the issue is about giving the employees their furloughed pay that was stolen from them. Yes you can say it was stolen if they have had surpluses for the last 2 years and the mayor his it.

Give only merit raises. We still have a 60 million fix to pay for at the WWTP. Two million ain't jack squat!

ABSOLUTELY!!

First we start with the police department. If further changes are needed we need to ask why department heads didn't make a request at budget time?

Everything thing else falls into the mayor's lap for the rest of the failures to retain city employees. City employees, just remember this, and take it up with Ireton come election time!

All raises should be based on merit and if they haven't max'ed out on the pay range for their position.

If we are having difficulties filling or retaining current employees for a certain position, because the pay scale is low compared to other areas then re-evaluate the job description and pay scale and make adjustments.

I don't agree with giving across the board raises. This will cost the city each year going forward and they can't afford this.

A solution would be to reward all of the fine city employees with a merit bonus which would be a one time payment. It would only be given to the employees who make less then $50,000 annually since they have been the ones who have picked up the majority of the slack over the last 3 years. This practice could continue annually based on how well the employees met certain goals and if the surpluses continue. This would be a win-win for the city employees and the taxpayers.
