A Comment Worthy Of A Post 9-5-12
I do agree with what everyone is saying, but I mainly agree the money was stolen from the city employees. The heartless Mayor Ireton forced employees to take furloughs which cost them thousands of dollars and serious hardships. This money needs to go back to the employees. The Police department and the fire department aren't the only departments with needs. An election is coming up soon and giving money to the PD and not other departments will create a serious blow to Ireton's and Campbell's campaigns.

This is a good comment and and it would be in the best interest of the Mayor and Council to divide this money up and give it back to all the city employees and then work on a plan to recruit and retain good police officers. Considering this request is proposed 1 month after the budget has been struck reeks of insincerity and dirty politics. Do the right thing and give the employees their lost pay back. The employees haven't recieved a cost of living increase in years.
Neither have I. I own a business and everything is still going down hill. I dont get a raise I have to live what is left over after paying taxes and supplies to carry on. I say leave the money in the bank. Give a moderate raise to police and leave the remainder in the bank.
No one has received raises in years not just city employees...
The fact that this is happening outside of the budget is telling.
Joe, Teresa Gardner is refusing to allow employees to use the work boots benefit. Instead she is keeping the money in the budget and requests to HR to address the problem have fallen on deaf ears. Has someone stolen this money? What are they hiding? Thousands of dollars are not being allocated as the city budget authorized. Something smells rotten. Please investigate this.
Beef up th SPD and return moneys to the employees.Campbell fights for the employees.
I'd like to see Public Works get some incentive bonuses. Many of them are lazy and don't deserve what they get. But there are a few that work their butts off with 2-3 jobs to make ends meet.
Campbell is the one who got bonuses for ALL employees this budget year.
Imagine if the truth were being told to her and the council.
Don't blame Campbell or the other two good ones.
Only Jim Ireton and Laura Mitchell were ready to make sure the employees had NOTHING.
"return moneys to the employees"? Hello? This money did not come from City employees. It came from the taxpayer and not all employees live in Salisbury and pay its taxes. Ireton may have done a travesty by lying to City employees about having the funds for their existence but that's a different issue. The money should go back to the taxpayers as it does in nearby Delaware. If you think you deserve a raise, tell the Mayor. If you think he's ignoring what you consider a valid argument for a raise, get another mayor

I think that Ireton's chances for reelection are slim to none. We should just look ahead at who else will be running, that third candidate.
As for damaging Campbell's campaign for a 3rd term, she's proven herself again and again to be a fiscal watchdog and truly interested in the well being of the city, not special interests or "projects" that don't amount to a hill of beans or even suck the city's resources at the expense of the taxpayers.
The police pay increases were a must - we are bleeding officers and our ability to police our city is suffering.
The SPD has a caseload of 2-3 times that of similar sized and even twice as large cities. The city pays its officers less than market rate for the area. What's not to understand about this?

They're still looking for a vendor that can meet the needs of public works and give a bulk rate price.
Right 5:37. The budget went into effect on July 1st. Previously, an employee could buy whatever boots that met standards and they were reimbursed. A letter has NEVER been sent to employees to explain the hold up. NEVER. Something shady is happening with money the Mayor and Council approved.
Sounds like the boots issue could be one of those strings you pull that unravels a whole lot more than it appears. Is someone stealing money? Wouldn't surprise me.
