I'll say it AGAIN we need one fire truck and an ambulance on this side of town AT THE FIREHOUSE DOWNTOWN. We don't need a hook and ladder just a fire truck. What is it going to take a loss of life. Probably already has. I guess we can call on Delmar or Parsonsburg. We just can't do the simple things.
Police station was built on Delaware Ave to deter crime in that neighborhood and the shopping center. Didn't work then, doesn't work now. Dope dealers and hookers all over the place. How's that for city planning?
Ah, we the city leaders don't have sense to do long-range planning and studies, just convince citizen Q a new fire palace is needed, raise taxes tell them how helpful new fireboat, new building is so badly needed, we sell it-they buy it! After all the backdoor deal was already done by the time the first citizen knew anything about it. Remember, who was friends with whom at the time? Instead of running the government like a business, and using existing resources and improving upon them, we decided to build on a water soaked piece of land that couldn't be sold.
Why can't the police department and the fire department share space in the old fire department downtown? Neither dept. needs that much space but would be nice to have a fire truck on this side of the river and a couple of police cars too. Think for a change and get this accomplished before someone dies because of the ignorance that is abundant in this town.
ok Joe, I've said this before but not to you. for your vision of the downtown waterfront redevelopment, close the north fork of the wicomico make those businesses that are up there, move down the river. eminent domain however you want. Then redevelop the north fork to make it a family friendly atmosphere along with the east fork. then weld the bridges shut. Why should the citizens of this city be punished so two or three businesses stay in those locations. How much time and money is wasted by the people stuck waiting for a barge of stone to go through? makes no sense!
Everybody should be reminded that the former dump/cranberry bog (yes, bog) where Station 16 now sits was sold in April of that year for $175,000 to a group of Tilghman and Dunn's investor friends (names protected by an LLC)and sold to the city less than four months later (with NO improvements)for $660,000 of taxpayer money. Thank you, Barrie (my husband's a millionaire) Tilghman, Mike (I'm a millionaire) Dunn, Gary (they're gonna name part of it for me) Comegys, Shanie (the West Side needs it) Shields and Lynn (I don't have a clue)Cathcart for your wonderful service to the community.
Isn't Brew river on the same side of the river as Station 16? It's just down the skreet, no bridges! What, it;s an empty building without that one fire engine? I don't get the problem.
Salisbury pre dates automobiles by a couple hundred years or so.The layout of our city has the obvious colonial configuration that jumps out at history buffs like myself.Once the streets were layed out and property lines established very little could be done to make a smooth transition from horse and buggies to cars and trucks.Since we've chosen to live here,we'll simply have to cope with it as best we can.I love SBY,but all joking aside a fire dept could be designed to straddle the river and there would still be problems.

Dispatch them, problem solved!

Hey Dumb Dumb, look at the picture. It is Truck 1 from Station 1 so you obviously don't know how to solve problems. Looking at the direction of the Truck I would say they were in the area and responding from WaWa.
Great post 4:24, and don't forget that Barry and Gary live on the "right side" of the station, and that Debbie and Terry don't. What would it take to get the names of the LLC that screwed over us taxpayers???
For future reference, we taxpayers/voters should not allow any person to serve on any council if they own a business in the city to eliminate any conflict. It seems to me, too many times the business owners have ties to the leadership and thus the underhanded deal (sold $175,000-bought for $660,000) happens. They get the inside information for it becomes public then the taxpayer gets soaked with higher taxes. The only thing this city knows how to do is raise taxes, they don't know how to solve problems.
I agree with August 24, 2012 12:23 PM. A fire engine and an ambulance should be housed at the old fire station to protect downtown and the citizens close by. Station 1 is to far away if you want to throw out response times.

Ireton doesn't have the balls to get rid of Hoppes. Hoppes, Pick, Chambers, et. al. were his enemies and now he has made them his allies. A sign of weakness.

Wasn't that the argument for the new fire station?!?!?!?!!!!!!
"Oh we'll never have that problem" said Little Ricky and Bubba.

If we had the 12 new firemen , they could have carried the truck across. Hows your response time now chief?
This is embarassing.
close the police station down and the fire dept.

1247: Station 1 is across from Parkside and the call was at brew....so why call 1?
Time to build a bridge high enough so that the trucks can go over and the boats can go under.

What an idiot. I hope you aren't the fire chief paid to solve problems.

Anon 2:26, because they were not trapped in a traffic backup.

Where is the fire boat?
And this will figure into the SFD's response time reports, dragging them down, giving Hoppes ammunition to say that even more firefighters are needed.
