ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — A Maryland board has renewed a contract for an
initiative to supply used cars to the needy to enable them to get to
full-time jobs.
The Maryland Board of Public Works voted 3-0 on Wednesday to renew a
one-year contract for about $330,000, despite some reservations
expressed by board members about the number of vehicles provided.

Stupid program and a waste of money.
Free cars, free cell phones, free food stamps, free housing. Why work?
As a taxpayer I would like to know how many vehicles are supplied compared to the number of recipients who find full time jobs with them. It seems to me that it would be more prudent to weigh the high cost of this contract versus the high unemployment rate in the state to determine a more cost effective outcome for the taxpayer. While on this subject, who is covering the cost of car repairs, etc. on these vehicles? Again, if the person is just getting hired, it stands to reason they wouldn't have the money to pay for repairs, insurance, etc. There is much more to this than meets the eye. Why can't they use a bus or taxi service that's cover by social services dollars?
I find it interesting the governor loves to waste the working taxpayer's money. Sounds just like O'bama doesn't it?
There used to be a program like this a few years ago. To qualify, you must have been working at the same job for at least 6 months, have a valid drivers license with no points, eligible for car insurance, have a checking account and have to prove that you paid maintance like oil changes on the car. Most did not qualify because they had points, no license or could not have a checking account because they owed money and if they opened an account, money would be taken for the unpaid bills.
Could I get one? my car is nearly 11 yo.
I NEVER get something for nothing.
Don't we also pay for those dumb DART buses to ride around all day carrying 2 people at a time?So why are we giving out free cars?
