TAMPA — Republicans gathered at the University Club in downtown Tampa Saturday night to honor GOP chairman Reince Priebus. The event was sponsored by the Wisconsin delegation, which of course represents Priebus’ home state, and the Mississippi delegation, home of former governor and former RNC chairman Haley Barbour. There were several major players there: Priebus himself, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, Sen. Ron Johnson, Barbour and nephew Henry Barbour, former Virginia governor and former RNC chair Jim Gilmore, former chair Mike Duncan, and others.
With the presence of Priebus, Barbour, Gilmore, and Duncan, the event featured the current and three former chairmen of the party. But there was one very recent chairman who was nowhere to be found, and whose name didn’t come up: Michael Steele.

I can't believe the writer is so surprised. Didn't you know, a lot of minorities weren't invited.
Steele is a clown. They marched him out there simply as a counter weight to the other black man who was in the news in 08. Although Steele led the GOP to a major comeback in 2010, they still showed him to the door.
Because Steele is one very few sane Republicans left out there. The GOP has been hijacked by the Tea Party crazies like Buchmann and Cantor. Respectable republicans such as Olympia Snow and John Huntsman are leaving the political game.
Instead of listening to people like David Frum and Andrew Sullivan you get excited by Sean Hannity and Donald Trump - pretty sad.
You went from party of Lincoln, Eisenhower, and Regan to party of contraception obsessed loons like Akin and Santorum

820-Ike as a democrat? GTFOH. The Dems shifted right along with the GOP. Neither occupy anywhere close to the middle of the road. This democratic party is headed up by Pelosi and Obama. Need I say more?

I was not defending democrats. I agree that they did shift way to the right. The problem with democrats is that they lose on issues and are easily swayed - that includes Obama in many instances.
I wish that democrats had someone like Dick Chaney or Rove, but they don't. They usually roll over and get into fetal position on nearly every issue, such as single payer, gun control, taxes, or even abortion.
It is, however, encouraging to see Democrats go blow for blow in this nasty campaign. Hopefully, Obama won't fold like Kerry did.
