It is about time they put a traffic light there. What is that now 4 or 5 accidents this summer.

At what point do they put a traffic light in this intersection.
Maybe we need to avoid going to Royal Farms until a light is put there.
If they lose business then they will do what is necessary to get a light there.

seems to be a recurring theme. They need to make it so that you can't cross from white lowe to east bound 50, you should only be able to turn right. Just like they did at the main turnoff to hebron. Either that or put a traffic light there, which nobody wants.

I have used that intersection many times and never had a problem easily understanding it from all 4 directions. People are just not paying attention on the road while driving, I guess. Can anyone who frequents that intersection educate me on what the confusion is? I'm missing some inherent hazard, I guess.

My cell rings every time I'm there. I just blow thru there anyway some times with out looking.

I live less than one mile down the road from this intersection and have been using it since before Royal Farms was built. I too agree that it is a relatively wide open intersection with plenty of visibility. I have no trouble going in any direction using this intersection. What I have noticed is that there are a lot of people that do not know how to manage this area. There are MERGE lanes going in both directions to allow people to MERGE into traffic, not to just SIT THERE and wait for all lanes to clear. For me, this intersection is easy to manage. The only difficult part is having to deal with the drivers that got their license from a cracker jack box. Those people need to either call a cab or JUST STAY HOME!!!

Amen 7:25pm! Drivers who have had the proper driving education should know how to safely maneuver through this intersection. Since the Royal Farms opened more than several years ago, there have not been any problems at this crossover until this year. What 's up?

Light is needed less than driver education. There is nothing wrong with that intersection. Actually, it is one of the better ones.

It's not the road, it's the drivers.

Royal farms has nothing to do with the signal, so boycot them if you wish. It has been stated before and I will state it again. Traffic signals are placed based upon need, need being fatal collisions. There has not been a fatal collision there ever, not even close. People its all about money. The state highway administration and the state of maryland will have to pay nearly $300,000 to put a signal there .That does not even include the redesigning of the intersection that NHTSA requires for federal highway money. The approach east bound is a blind corner with not enough notification for a signal to meet the NHTSA standards, so they can not just put a signal there. The road/corner will have to be redisgneded to allow enough approach and departure from the signal. What you will get and get soon will be a set of signs regulating turns at the intersection. Royal Farms and their vote buying money will not allow any restriction from east bound into the store, so the sign will be right turn only from White Lowe Road onto west bound Rt. 50. Afterall the only collisions have happened from people leaving the Royal Farms trying to crossover and go east bound on Rt. 50. It's not a bad design on the intersection. The problem and cause of ALL of the collisions is human error. The SHA calculates human error versus cost (money), thus you only get sings. You can mark this statemens and go back and say I told you so.

Light is not needed. Drivers need to focus more!

I never thought they should have designed it that way from the beginning. If time and trial had determined that the many intersections further west had requred turning restrictions, why did they feel that this one would be any different? I blame the State for not looking at history. Also, before Royal Farms would have footed the bill, now we foot the bill. The intersection would not be quite as bad if peole understood it. Unfortuanately, you have tourists using it that thave never seen it before. It is almost impossible to use the acceleration lane going east because east bound vehicles stack where traffic coming out of Royal farms would need to go in order to merge. In the end, bad decision that we will have to pay for, not the private business that created the mess.

For thoes of you saying there does not need to be a light there... There have been 12 accidents since January.
I do not want to see anyone get killed at this intersection but how will you feel if it is someone in your family that dies at this intersection that could easily have a light. Human error or not... Dead is dead... Its only a matter of time
