3rd Friday Is Upon Us Tonight
Salisbury, MD – Downtown is going to the Dogs! Friday August 17th is celebrating "The Dog Days of Summer" this month, with canine themed activities, painting dogs and more in Downtown Salisbury! 3rd Friday’s are monthly street festivals, celebrating the arts and our beautiful downtown area. Artists and Crafters fill the Main Street Plaza Area, and the shops and restaurants are open with special 3F sales and events. 3rd Fridays are free to the public, so come down, bring the dog and the whole family and experience local art against our Downtown’s beautiful backdrop!
The Main Street Plaza area will be filled with original artists lining the streets and live music from The Muddy Hole Band, a local bluegrass trio….with a twist. The Muddy Hole Band blends the traditional bluegrass instrumentation of guitar, bass and mandolin with their unique style of vocal harmonies; but what makes the band unique is its choice of music – performing songs from across the American musical spectrum. They recreate new versions of classic rock songs, as well as, pop and country tunes, making it their own and performing them in a whole new way - They mudify it! And to top it all off, they rarely play a song the same way twice. Just as your dog loves a muddy hole….you’ll love the Muddy Hole Band!
The Art Institute and Gallery will also be a must see this month. 3rd Friday will mark the final night of a special one week exhibit of AIG will be holding a special one week exhibit of summer camp art, the Salisbury Zoo Go Wild with Art at the Zoo works and the works from the Plein Air event at the Salisbury Zoo. In addition to this fantastic annual show, AIG will also be holding a Painting Demo by the Shore Service Dogs, as seen on the Today Show! Come watch these amazing canines create original works of art! The artwork will then be auctioned off at the end of the night, with proceeds benefiting the Shore Service Dogs. AIG is open from 5 – 7 on 3rd Fridays, so be sure to stop in a take a look!
Wrapping up the evening, SWAC will be hosting 3rd Friday Flicks on the Riverfront. Join SWAC at 7:30, on the Riverfront near the Holiday Inn for a twilight movie! There will be kid’s activities before the show, and refreshments will be available. Join Chance, Shadow and Sassy on their adventure to find their way home in this classic dog-days of summer flick. So bring a blanket or lawn chair, and the whole family!
3F is an all-volunteer effort, a downtown economic development initiative and a project of the Salisbury Arts & Entertainment District Committee. There is no charge for local artists to set up, only registration is required.
