Incident: Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol
Date of Incident: 14 July 2012
Location: Naylor Mill Road at Jersey Road, Salisbury, MD
Suspect: Dillon F. Lucas, 18, Berlin, MD

Narrative: On 14 July 2012
at 12:54 AM, a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office stopped a Chevrolet sedan operated by Dillon Lucas for a stop sign violation on Naylor Mill Road in Salisbury.

Upon making contact with Lucas, the deputy detected a strong odor of alcohol emanating from within the vehicle, along with open and un-opened cans of beer in the vehicle. The deputy began to suspect that Lucas was under the influence which led to the administration of sobriety testing. At the conclusion of the testing, the deputy placed Lucas under arrest for DUI.

The deputy transported Lucas back to the Sheriff’s Office where he was processed. During the processing, Lucas was offered the opportunity to take a breath test which he declined. Lucas was released upon the issuance of citations.

Incident: Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol

Location: South Upper Ferry Road, Eden, MD
Suspect: Robert James Showell, 52, Salisbury, MD

Narrative: On 13 July 2012
at 11:10 PM, a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle operated by Robert Showell for erratic driving on South Upper Ferry Road. Upon approach to Showell, the deputy detected a strong odor of alcohol emanating from within the vehicle. The deputy also detected that Showell was slurring his words while speaking and was having trouble standing upon exiting the vehicle. The deputy began the administration of sobriety testing due to suspicions that Showell was under the influence of alcohol. After the testing, the deputy placed Showell under arrest for DUI.

Showell was transported to the Sheriff’s Office for processing and given the opportunity to take the breath test which he consented to. The breath test revealed an alcohol level over the legal limit. Showell was released upon the issuance of citations.

Incident: Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol

Location: Wetipquin Road, Tyaskin, MD
Suspect: Robert Keith Collins, 42, Quantico, MD

Narrative: On 14 July 2012
at 11:06 PM, a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle for erratic driving on Wetipquin Road in Tyaskin. Upon approach to the driver, Robert Collins, the deputy detected a strong odor of alcohol emanating from within the passenger compartment. Based on the odor and other observations made by the deputy, sobriety testing of Collins began. After the testing, the deputy placed Collins under arrest for DUI.

Collins was transported to the Sheriff’s Office for further processing during which he was offered the opportunity to take the breath test. During the test, Collins was discovered to be over the legal limit to operate a vehicle.

Incident: Possession of CDS
Date of Incident: 14 July 2012
Location: Jersey Road, Salisbury, MD
Suspect: Craig D. Gibson, 52, Mardela Springs, MD

Narrative: On 14 July 2012
at 11:27 PM, a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle operated by Craig Gibson for a stop sign violation on Lake Street. Upon stopping the vehicle, the deputy was speaking with Gibson outside of the vehicle when the deputy became suspicious of an object in the pocket of Gibson’s pants. Gibson retrieved the item which the deputy recognized as a CDS smoking device and attempted to toss it away without the deputy seeing it or recovering it. The deputy was able to recover the device, along with a small amount of crack cocaine.

The deputy placed Gibson under arrest and transported him to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, the Commissioner detained Gibson in the Detention Center in lieu of $25,000.00 bond.

Incident: Rape
Date of Incident: 13 July 2012
Location: Cooked Oak Lane, Salisbury, MD
Suspect: Handy T. Cornish, 31, Parsonsburg, MD

Narrative: On 13 July 2012
at 2:08 AM, a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office responded to Crooked Oak lane in the area of Nanticoke Road for a reported rape. Upon arrival, the deputy met a female victim who had been picked up by a passerby who claimed that she had been raped on a dirt lane off of Crooked Oak Road. The deputy observed her condition and behavior to be consistent with her allegation. The deputy went to the area where the incident supposedly occurred and located the suspect sitting in a vehicle. Both the suspect and vehicle matched the description given by the victim.

After further investigation, the deputy obtained further evidence that corroborated the victim’s account of being raped on the dirt lane.

The deputy placed the suspect, Handy Cornish, under arrest and transported him to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, the Commissioner detained Cornish in the Detention Center without bond.

Charges: Rape 1st Degree
