BALTIMORE - Gov. Martin O'Malley has decided to send lawmakers back to work.
The Democratic governor announced Friday that he will convene a
special legislative session May 14 to complete work on a budget that
left the state with $512 million in cuts.
Lawmakers failed to pass an income tax package in the final hours of
the annual 90-day session last month, trigging the cuts largely at the
expense of education and public services.
"There is too much at stake not to move forward," O'Malley said in a
news release issued by his office. "I'm confident that we can come
together with the Senate President and House Speaker to complete this
most important work for the people of our State."
