The New Fire Boat Has Arrived In Salisbury

In typical Mayor Ireton fashion his entourage joined him for this momentous occasion. I did learn from the scene that although you and I would be required to get a Captain's License, the Fire Department is exempt from having to do so.

I want to quote Luke Skywalker when he first saw the Millenium Falcon. "What a piece of Junk!" How much was this thing and why did we need it? Just looks really small to me.

Looks like Sarah Lake waiting to kiss Jimbo's butt as usual.

Where is this thing going to be docked at?

You would not be required to get a Capatains license, it's not for hire, what idoit told you that? I did hear Ocean City has put 15-20 through that class and have thier USCG license, as well as others.

This is a great addition to the CIty and to the safety of our community. Why is everyone so negative on this blog? Seems you all just want to bitch and complain. Get a life.

What a waste of money.

Anonymous said...

GROSS waste of money. Who's trained to use it, and how much to maintain it? Oh, thats right, it was a grant :(

Anonymous said...

Looks like the waste we all thought it would be, atleast they have something to show off for the boat parade at xmas time each year.." look what we have"...guess what...while you all stroke each others egos..noone else really cares what you have....what will you all do with less room to fish off this boat? I see no outriggers for trolling....the boat the "DATUM" that SFD HAD before their last boat was more practical than this P.O.S.....good job guys...glad i dont pay city taxes.....idiots

Anonymous said...

yep, yep, yep, just how many fires or rescues in the last 10 years on the river? Nuff said! oh, oh, oh, 20 years then ?

Anonymous said...

From all the info I have read on here about the fire boat the past couple of years, I figured it must be as large as the Queen Elizabeth.

This size is perfect for Salisbury. The SFD has purchased it, rather you like it or not so quit your belly aching.

From the snide remarks, some people do not care for Sarah Martin - as for me I enjoy her articles. I will read this in the DT before you awake and about 8 AM will come here to read the usual smear on Sarah Lake.

I gather Mayor Ireton as enemies. I cannot really judge what kind of job he is doing, because the do nothing council won't let him do anything

Hey SFD hope you never need to use your new boat but it is good to know it is there if needed..

Anonymous said...

$900,000 for that! Good God!

Anonymous said...

Maybe they should spend less money on their toys and more money training the paramedics how to treat people. A little compassion wouldn't kill them.
The snide remarks about this call or that call need to stop. It doesn't matter if you are going to help a person at an accident or the people that use the ambulance as a taxi. Either way you are paid to do a job. If you are worried about people wasting tax dollars with the taxi ride maybe you should start at your own firehouse and stop spending the tax dollars.

All those people on that dock.....I'm thinking of a movie where they all end up in the water...sick yes....but would still be funny to see! lol

Anonymous said...

I'd of rather seen them just buy a good used cold molded Carolina built boat and chartered it at least they could be honest about what they really wanted and had a licensed captain instead of this bunch taking turns running truing drills to the Inner Harbor for mutual aid purposes! I can't wait for Joe to be mayor and here the list of maintenance and repair cost!

4:15 says---"Hey SFD hope you never need to use your new boat but it is good to know it is there if needed"

What flawed logic. No wonder the US, states, counties and municipalities are going broke with mentalities like this displayed. Not only your lack of logical thinking but your lack of high finance is apparent also. Under your logic I guess the city should also purchase a helicopter, maybe some armored vehicles also.... why not just in case?

Anonymous said...

"From the snide remarks, some people do not care for Sarah Martin - as for me I enjoy her articles."

Then you must be as dopey as she is, 4:15. Either a dope or you are quite uninformed. Lake has been caught numerous times in what amounts to lies.

Anonymous said...

@ 3:28 glad you liek this boat since you helped pay for it. With the economy and Salisbury as crappy as ever why in the hell would we need a freaking fire boat? How many times will this be used until it is out of comission? I would say under 10.

Anonymous said...

He 4:15 I mean Jimbo go back to sleep and you know what you can do with your fireboat and your lackey reporters. We are on to you! your kind! and your games..

Anonymous said...

Also interesting how it looks Pretty to anyone on land, but as a vessel seems to be lacking some features. The side lights and masthead light are hard to fund... But pretty flashing red lights on the sides are there( and they mean nothing in the water). This vessel should display an alternating yellow and red light... Yet I see two colored strobes. It is all fun and games until there is an accident, and all these things come out as causative factors.

A great addition and to the safety? If this $1 million abortion was needed why wasn't it purchased years ago?

Anonymous said...

negative 3:28? How about fiscally responsible? There is a difference-learn it!

Why do I think April 30, 2012 4:15 PM is Jim Ireton?

The only thing he forgot to mention was the free grant money.

Anonymous said...

4:15 needs to come back later, preferrably when they are sober. Atleast I hope they are drinking as I can't imagine anyone being that naive (putting it nicely).

Anonymous said...

I bet Fire Chief Hoppes and Deputy Fire Chief Tull rode in on the S.S. Ireton.

The problem is the same as in Ocean City. Some politicians are only intent on making employees happy. This is what preciptated the coucils firing of Dare the former city manager. He approved everything the city employees wanted including creating more management type of postions. The voters spoke at the election and voted out Hancock and voted in a council who listened to the taxpayers instead of turning a blind eye toward them because they wanted to keep their friends (city employees) happy.

I can't ever recall a fire on the river.

Federal Grant, you're paying for it whether it's in Salisbury, or EBF Memphis. But, that's true, if it's in EBF Memphis, no one sees it, to know they're paying for it, so it's not a problem. "Dig the well before you are thirsty." Chinese Proverb.

The money was spent either way, why not benefit from it. And to say the city will not benefit from this equipment is rediculous. This equipment is obviously built for more than one purpose (did you notice the dive platform on the back).

I wonder what this will do for property insurance along the river?

I wonder what this will do for the commercial ships in and out of the river?

Nope, we should concentrate on arguing about money that was already gone, that we managed to get back.

Typical Libtard. Grab the free money while you can!!

So what if someone else got it. Does that make it right for a $1 Million dollar fire boat go to waste in Salisbury.

Who is going to pay for the annual maintenance costs?

Who is going to pay for the training?

Who is going to pay for the fuel?

Who is going to pay for the supplies needed to make the boat complete?

Who is going to pay for the annual training on the fire boat?

Who is going to staff the boat?

Where is to boat going to be used since no one recalls there ever been a fire on the river?

Who cares about someone elses property insurance on the river? Most of us shouldn't have to pay more in taxes so someone living high on the hog on river front property can have lower insurance rates.

Again these comments sound just like a tax and spend democrat concerned about spreading the wealth.

Fire Chief?? I thought he was only the acting fire chief until a real one could be found?

"The money was spent either way, why not benefit from it."

Typical liberal mentality. Spend spend spend!

Anonymous said...

Okay One of the Few-is the fed grant money going to pay for the other hidden and not so hidden costs of this boat?
Fuel?
And yes what about all the training the FD will now feel compelled to take, usually atleast a night or 2 out of town?

Digging the well before it's needed seems in this case, considering the city's finances, to save money, not spend more since the money problem seems to be a reality as opposed to fires in boats out in the river.

Nothing is free when maintenance cost are realistically looked at. Several members of the fire department had better alternatives that were much more affective and money wise. Apparently when common sense is voiced the ears of the hard headed are closed.

As I attempted to say earlier, but apparently it was lost in cyber space, why don't you read what this grant actually covered? Training of personnel is included in the grant. Everyone may want to get all the facts before they shoot this out of sky.

As for the liberal comments, far from it. I just happened to do research, and looked to other sources, rather than SbyNews alone. Not to mention I do more for my community and country than just sit here and complain about people trying to be proactive.

The Salisbury Fire Department can't even manage the staffing they have now. There are not enough Paramedics and they keep hiring firefighters when the need is for Paramedics. Wouldn't it be nice if they had someone with enough sense to hire the right people for the job. Where is the staffing going to come from to staff this fire boat? The current fire boat has been dry docked the majority of the time it was in service. So with that said if the fire boat has been dry docked all these years then clearly there is no need for a million dollar fire boat.

4:15 PM is it Sarah Martin or Sarah Lake?

Wow this boat will come in really handy when downtown is on fire LOL

This person is obviously closely intimate with the City of Salisbury Fire Department.

Looking at the pictures makes it clear that if it wasn't for all the paid firemen on duty nobody would be there for Jim Beaus photo op. Shouldn't those people be manning their fire stations? It's a good thing there wasn't a serious emergency on the East side of the river.

Anonymous said...

Lets see, fire at Market Street, oh yeah can't get too it bridge in way, ok work a deal with the County to use at Upper Ferry as a people ferry when the car ferry is out of service, no better not it would be there pretty often. I guess its not a bad investment just have to think of other uses, nice swim platform, maybe tubing up the river?

I noticed that all of Ricks current butt kissers are on board. Nothing like the good ole boy system running rampant in the SFD. I here Hoppes is meeting all the time with Gordy and Higgins so they can plan their strategy on getting Hoppes appointed permanently.

Can you prove to us why it is a great addition to the fleet?

Who the heck takes a podium to a dock?

Also got a kick out of 4:15. "Do nothing" council won't let the mayor do anything?" Ireton spends 50% of his time slamming the council with the help of the Mitchell woman, Sarah Lake and Mike Dunn. The other 50% he spends on press releases and photo ops like these. Ireton makes everything a political mess.

Anonymous said...

Rick's current butt kissers? The only person on it in any of these pictures is Insley, not exactly someone I would title as an ass kisser. Probably the opposite.

"Also got a kick out of 4:15. "Do nothing" council won't let the mayor do anything?"

I too got a kick out of this statement. Of course the council won't let the mayor do anything! No one with any sense would let him do anything. You let him do something and see what he does! Brings to town and is actually excited about this million dollar money pit.

No captains lisense? That boat will get beat up and abused, just like the ladder truck did that everyone had problems navigating when they first got it.

How much more will this cost to house and maintain yearly Capt. Ireton?

Anonymous said...

Without a propertly trained and certified captain, just how do they plan to use this boat when it's dark or foggy, and have to rely on instruments?

Anonymous said...

This is a $1 Million ABORTION!!!

Thank goodness. Finally an end to all those fires along the river!
