Labor Unions Call On Lawmakers To Approve Gaming

Leaders of nearly a dozen unions, mostly in the construction trades, want lawmakers to approve an expanded gambling bill in a special session of the Maryland General Assembly.

The labor leaders delivered a letter Friday to Governor Martin O'Malley, House Speaker Michael Busch and Senate President Mike Miller.

Patrick Moran, executive director of AFSCME Maryland, is among the labor leaders who signed the letter.

The labor leaders say a sixth casino in Prince George's County, and the addition of table games at the state's five remaining casinos, "creates the structure for long-term revenue growth for Maryland."

This just isn't going to happen until Mike Miller's Counties get their Casinos. Calvert County already has slots under the disguise of "Bingo" at Chesapeake Beach. PG County has already been pushing theirs. More quietly, Charles County want's to revive Colonial Beach (accessed via VA but residing in MD). Greed has had the Legislature drooling so much, they forgot to pass a budget.

The icing on the cake is that O'Malley has been pushing to DECREASE the share Casino owners must give up to the State while INCREASING tax and fees to citizens must give to the State.
