Resume:
Milford, DE- The Delaware State Police have arrested a former Kent County Sheriff after he violated a court order.

James A. Higdon Jr., 59, of Dover was arrested Wednesday evening after he called a former family member and threatened to do harm to them. This was a direct violation of a court order that was issued by Kent County Court of Common Pleas on March 8, 2012. Higdon had also made comments about harming two other people during this account.

Higdon was located by members of the State Police Kent County Governors Task Force sitting alone in his vehicle while parked in the parking lot of Walgreens off North West Front Street in Milford. Upon taking him into custody, detectives located a loaded handgun inside the vehicle. Higdon is prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition after having been committed to a psychiatric facility for a mental disorder back on March of 2011.

Higdon was transported back to Troop 3 in Camden where warrants were obtained for his arrest. While in custody, Higdon required medical treatment, which was unrelated to his arrest, and was transported to Kent General Hospital for treatment. While at the hospital, he was turned over to the Department of Corrections due to a violation of probation and will be arraigned on the additional charges listed above at a later date.
