Old School Incandescent Bulbs Get 9-Month Stay Of Execution

In spite of the fact that regulations to phase out high-wattage incandescent bulbs were signed into law in 2007, the ability to buy antiquated, inefficient lighting somehow became a lightning rod topic in recent months. And so legislators who want to defend your right to waste electricity (and still be able to use your old Easy Bake Oven) managed to find a way to stave off enforcing the rules until next fall.

This shows how ignorant the legislature is. They want to change the buying habits of the folks, so why not ban something?

They missed out on a rare opportunity here: They could have simply assessed an excise tax of a buck or 2 on each bulb, and leave them on the market.

That way, if someone really wanted or needed one of these bulbs, they would still be available. Demand would go down, due to the increased costs, and folks would on their own look for alternative sources for light.

In the case of an Easy-Bake oven, the bulbs are not used for light, but for heat. Other uses of the 100 watt bulb are also for heat, such as in a pump house to keep the water pump and pipes from freezing.

And it would be legal to manufacture and buy `em.

Well, it is a small victory for people who are not fooled by all of this green nonsense. I am glad I won't have to buy the expensive and dangerous cfl bulbs.

AMEN DADDIO!

If it weren't for those hot little babies two winters ago, I woulnd't be able to kept one room of my house above freezeing and the pipes going when our furnace croaked.

Turned on every lamp and shop lamp with an incadescent and saved the day, well, the night, till we got help.

Daddio,
You scare the heck out of me!
Why should the government be in the business of deciding what products private citizens should purchase?

I simply don't want the government to tell me what kind of bulbs to use. Don't tread on me.

I installed a CFL in just about every light in my house three years ago and love it. I hate that people have apprehension over it just because its a "green" thing to do. My CFLs have well paid for themselves by now. But I disagree with the outlawing, incandescent bulbs make a good source of heat in a lot of instances.

CFLs:
If no one bought them, do you suppose they'd be around very long? Whomever falls for the hype deserves to live in the dark.( both literally & figuratively! ) We tried those bulbs 6 years ago...they don't last, they contain mercury, so you need hazmat to dispose of them, they're expensive, can't be used outdoors and they don't give much in the way of light. There was no difference in our electric bill, but we were spending a lot more on bulbs!

CFL's suck!
Expensive, Don't last any longer, Don't light a room as well...and I believe that is one of the points...to take us back into third world status and living in the dark. Don't Tread On Me is right.

We installed CFL's in our ceiling fans this past spring when we put the fans up.
Out of the 5 ceiling fans, we've already had to replace 3 of those bulbs.
Now keep trying to CONVINCE me (or should I say brainwash) me into thinking these bulbs last longer. No they don't. Now, we've wasted time, gas and money to go out and buy replacement bulbs. Where's the energy savings in that? There is none! On top of that, before the bulbs went out, we noticed these rooms were not as brightly lit all of a sudden.
I will stick with the old style bulbs!
