And Was The Mission Accomplished?

For the Army and Marines who lost 4,500 dead and more than 30,000 wounded, many of them amputees, the second-longest war in U.S. history is over. America is coming home from Iraq.

On May 1, 2003, on the carrier Abraham Lincoln, the huge banner behind President George W. Bush proclaimed, "Mission Accomplished!"

That was eight years ago. And so, was the mission accomplished?

Two-thirds of all Americans have concluded the war was not worth it.

And reading the description of Iraq from the editorial page of the pro-war Washington Post, who can answer yes?

"Al-Qaida continues to carry out terrorist attacks. Iranian-sponsored militias still operate, and a power struggle between Kurdish-ruled northern Iraq and Mr. Maliki's government goes on. More Iraqis worry that, after the U.S. troops depart this month, the sectarian bloodletting that ravaged the country between 2002 and 2007 will resume."

And not all the Americans are really coming home.

Listen to what Ron Paul says, which is, this war was total BS. A third world country doesn't need our intervention. If the people don't like their government, rise up. Like Egypt. All those young Americans are dead and for WHAT!!? So that exec's at Haliburton, GE, etc., get even richer? Thats all that we really accomplished. Made some rich people richer. NOW, let's see then wipe the blood off their hands, or, as is usually done, convince us that there ISN'T any blood on their hands and that our sons and daughters were HEROES. It's a line used to get us chanting USAS! USA! USA!. Tell it to their Mom's and Dad's, you war-mongering elitist gangsters. Pual is the ONLY candidate advocating closing all those military bases in Europe (what are we protecting over there???) and for stopping all these UNDECLARED "wars". And for stop sending the middle class and poor kids to die for the military-industrial war machine. Uh, by the way, what EXACTLY are we getting done in Afghanistan?

And now both political parties are setting the stage to convince the public that we have to go to war with Iran...Only one candidate is against that act as well...Ron Paul 2012

This is a first for me, but Imclain is absolutely correct.
I hope we're out of Afghanistan soon as well.
