More Local Troops Arriving Home From Iraq

Around 300 more members of the Virginia National Guard were due to arrive home Sunday and Monday, just days after President Barack Obama formally declared an end to the eight-year-long war in Iraq.

Units from Task Force 183 will hold brief welcome-home events Sunday in Fredericksburg and Norfolk and Monday in Portsmouth, where they will be reunited with their families.

One thing to keep in mind is that the Guard is mostly funded by the State and, when needed, funded by the Federal Government. When they are discharged, they will be on their own. They will need assistance in transitioning and supporting their families hopefully with job opportunities. Otherwise, they will be in need of (yet undefined) help.
