WASHINGTON - New signs about bicycles will be popping up on roads around Maryland soon.
The Maryland State Highway Administration is working on designs for a new sign that says bicycles may use full lane.

This will cause more cyclist to get waffled. A sign means nothing it will get disobeyed just like every other SHA sign. It will also lul cyclist into a false sense of security or better yet entitlement.
They should have to pay a "FEE" to ride on the roads in certain areas / busy highways. I have to pay taxes for driving on them.
Besides a "FEE" is not a tax, so the Governor says, like I have to pay on gasoline.
Why should a mode of transportation that has no impact on the roads they use or the environment have to pay a fee? That would only encourage more automobile congestion resulting in increased road wear and tear.
Until cyclists start using their heads while riding, this is going to be dangerous.
4:36 wake up, you have to pay to have a road built. Next roads that are not driven on will age, grass growing in cracks, look at parking lots of stores that have closed. If everyone road bikes do you think roads would last forever? how about a tax on spandex.
you use the roads you pay like everyone else, are they gonna be licensed? insurance for the accidents they cause? inspected? pulled over by the police for not obeying traffic laws? I see alot of possible revenue omalley may have overlooked. someone needs to let him know about this new revenue stream!
The Maryland Transportation Article defines a Bicycle as a Vehicle,which its operatour is responsible to obey all the laws as are anyone else driving or operating a vehicle in this State.
I would encourage all Maryland Law Enforcement to enforce the Traffic Laws concerning Bicycles with equal zeal as they do the rest of us,just think of the revenue that can be generated during the Salisbury State University Bicycle cluster da d da.Bet ya not one ticket is issued unless it involves an accident !!!!

The larger and heavier the vehicle moving over the road the faster it will wear out, fact. If everyone rode bikes then the roads would last a lot longer.

What do they need a sign for? Hell the aholes SU brings her on their Seagull rides take the WHOLE road not just their lane!

hey 7:10 the article is about new signs popping up on roads around Maryland soon. Is your bicycle tax going to pay for the signs and basic maintenance? Get a life and it would be best if you rode on the side of the road. I am sure you don"t have a clue how much it cost to mow the grass on the side of the road or keeping the snow off of the roads, let alone any road maintenance.
We are recreational cyclists, but even we haul butt out of town for the Century debacle. Evidently we are paying a tax for living in a scenic part of the area. Those clowns paralyze us for 2 days every year.
Go sit at the Onley Road/Bateman street intersection and tell me that bicycles follow the same rules/laws as a car. That intersection is a mess and usually it is the cyclists that are the problem. They make up their own rules and someone is going to get hit.
When will Salisbury wake up and realize that when an event comes to town, whether it inconveniences you or not, your town is making a ton of money. These cyclists are paying a donation to good causes just to come and ride on our roads. Not to mention all the food they will buy to support local restaurants and the hotels that will profit from the event.
I am a cyclist and since I AM paying taxes (which puts me in the 50% of people that are paying them even though the people that are not paying any are still driving on our roads), I am entitled to either ride my bike on the roads or my car. What makes you people think that just because we are recreational cyclists, we aren't already paying our fair share to maintain the roads?
I forecast a lot (more) cyclists getting run over. My experience has been that most of them are rude and arrogant. Just like their four wheeled counterparts.
Stay to the right and obey the laws or get squashed like a bug.

My understanding is they are required to have reflectors and lights if used at night.
They are taking their life in their hands. It is dangerous to drive a car with some of these people on the road. A bicycle offers no protection.
This is total BS. Blah, blah, blah share the road. Whatever, all I know is if a bike hits my car I might get a dent or something. But if my car were to hit the bike then we may have a much larger problem. This makes me wonder why people on bikes do not just use the sidewalk like normal pedestrians. I totally disagree with this and I do believe it will get more people injured.
