Train Derails In Salisbury

Train derailed off of Truitt Street in Salisbury. Looks like it jumped off due to construction on the rails. Guessing it was on its way to Perdue.

I dont have much to say about these trains around Salisbury...The past week I was coming from Walmart in Fruitland...Got ready to cross the tracks.....Looked to my left and right there was a huge light not even a 50 ft down the track , coming right at me...No flashing red lights on... I just so happen to think quick and put my vehicle in reverse, almost backing up over the car behind me...But thank God just in time to get outta the trains path...Then the light came on to the rails.....These trains better be inspected and especially in Fruitland...There was an accident there not to long ago...People watch out on this track....I will always stop and look twice now...that was so scarey..and it wasnt just me that saw this the car next to me did the same thing!

You're SUPPOSED to look both ways at a train crossing! All tracks are to be treated as a STOP SIGN even if there is not one there!

Do you know how close 50ft is? How could you not have seen a huge train in your peripherial vision. I'm sure it was much much further down the track, and the trains go a max of 28mph, probably slower there, so the lights probably came on at the time they were supposed to.

7:30.....50' is not far at all and I am sure if u had time to throw your car in reverse it was a lot further then that. I routinely see the trains in Fruitland and have yet to see the lights or the train sound the its horn anywhere less than 75 yards probably. Does it need gates to lower yes...I do agree with that...but 50' no way.

7:30 ALWAYS look both ways at tracks no matter where they happen to be. I live not far from that location. Yes, there was an accident at that location along with another accident at the next crossing near Canal Woods. Both were due to the drivers. I'm sure if the drivers hadn't been in a rush to get to the other side where they had to stop anyway maybe the accidents wouldn't of happened. As I sit here looking outside of my home I have 60' of front yard. If the train had been 50' away as you have stated, you wouldn't be telling us about it today. When you suggest the trains in Fruitland to be inspected, did you mean the tracks? The trains don't stay here, they pass through many cities as they go from where they started to where they finally stop.

Coming from an area where trains roll through all the time, it always amazes me when crossing the tracks on Cedar in Fruitland how many people ignore the painted white stop line and just sit on the tracks while waiting for the light to change.

True, the trains go pretty slow through Fruitland, but it's a bad practice to get into, and to teach your kids, who may not always live in the land of 15 mph trains.
