If there's one lesson to learn from today's court hearing its to make sure you never tell your probation officer things like, "I'm going to spit in that bitches face" or "I'll kill that cock sucking bitch." "Better stop asking questions about my family, or else." These are some of the statements the parole officer received from Lamar Collier and his girlfriend.
Another lesson that can be learned is that you do NOT get into a vehicle while on probation with someone else carrying a weapon. You do NOT have to be the person in possession of a weapon to violate probation and go back to jail.
The honorable Judge in this case received quite the challenge from defense attorney McDonald. He wanted the language to be understood that you must be in possession of the gun but when you listen to the actual language it clearly states you do not and Mr. Collier signed numerous documents stating he clearly understood he could not even be around a weapon.
Mr. Collier had been on probation and the Honorable Judge ruled that he did not follow the instructions referencing the weapon. He did not follow the regular monthly payments for his parole. He did not follow instructions as to where he lived and even though he had been seen by Police Officers in another residence, (other than the one he reported) at 3:30 AM, Collier maintained he lived elsewhere.
Collier also admitted he goes by the name "Flames," apparently a gang name. He stated there are other people in the neighborhood that go by the same name. However, the Judge wasn't buying any of it.
OK, so what are we seeing here. It was clear to me that Wicomico County is taking a firm stand against Gang Members, sending a clear message such activity will not be tolerated. One person I spoke with stated that this is a huge win for the County.
Collier was looking at 18 1/2 years in jail and the Judge sentenced him to serve 15 years. The Judge felt Mr. Collier isn't willing to follow the guidelines of his parole, therefore Mr. Collier was escorted away by Sheriff's Deputies immediately following the Judge's ruling and taken to jail.

I must agree with you and take it a step further. He will get a degree , he has free medical care , he has free meals , he has TV , he has a library , he has a gym , he has free utilities , he has all the dope he wants , he gets sex from his girl frequently

Fourth, we should invest the money spent on incarceration on ensuring that the illiteracy rate among the nation’s population is reduced dramatically. Doing so will ensure that our general population is equipped to make the very kind of rational choice decisions that will enable them to make better choices in the first place. There is one more gang member that needs to be put away with the rest of them, the attorney andrew "i like drug money" mcdonald. talk about a weasel and a sell out. He used to be a states attorney (and not a very good one at that) and now he takes drug money, representing gang members,drug dealers and child molesters. I'm willing to bet that will all the business the local dealers have given him that they made him an honary bloods member. Just my opinion, but a shared one.

And as far as bashing his attorney, well lets just say I'm glad his attorney did such a fine job. this way there are no reasons for the individual to claim he wasn't properly represented. Just locking someone up doesn't solve the problem. If you don't educate them so they will have more non-criminal options we will continue to have to deal with the same individuals.
It may make you feel good to lock them up but if you don't correct the reasons they choose illegal activities you will continue to have the same problems.
I know a lot of people cannot grasp this concept but if what you are doing does not work, why would you continue to utilize it?
There are some hard core cases who will never be helped but we really need to be proactive instead of reactive.

Tell me with ordinary hard working citizens whom some have lost their jobs, some facing lay offs, others are using mandatory furloughs, some have received pay cuts; are going to pay the cost of criminials high school or college education. The Tax payers. Some do not want to build a high school for children who are one step from an alternative school or juevy center. Detention Centers, jails and prisons is where these criminals want to be. It's a free playground, vacation center, medical center and a mental health facility for most criminals. And, a business for most people of power and politicians. Please stop wasting our time.
All jails need to just like the one in Texas. Let them sleep outside (our service men and women do) They spend less to feed a prisoner than they do to feed the guard dogs and they do not have state of the art gyms and T.V and so on. And if they want to act the fool they go in lock up real fast. YA for a state that takes no crap from the dirt bags around them.

Sorry, I didn't know your time was so valuable on a blog. Your syntax is a little askew but I'll do my best to decipher your rant.
I got news for ya, the taxpayers are already paying whether criminals are educated or not. And they will continue to pay. For the same ones who get released and then return to prison because he has no education to get a job, to make better choices or to correct his behavior.
Peoples job situation has no bearing on this. If they get a pay cut, they will pay less in taxes. If they lose their job they won't pay any taxes. Maybe you can explain whatever you are trying to say with logic and not emotions?
Add building a high school to that list as well.
I wouldn't think people or any criminal would WANT to be in prison. There may be an exception to that but certainly not the rule.

I think you are referring to the jail in Arizona.
I don't know about the gym but they do have t.v.'s with cable. They even have their own radio station courtesy of the sheriff.
And get this, he educates his prisoners. So you're right about one thing, all the jails need to be like this one in that regard.
They have also had to pay out over 50 million in claims and lawsuits against the sheriff and the county.
Arpaio banned smoking in the county jail. He also removed pornographic magazines (the ban was later upheld in court) and weightlifting equipment. Entertainment was limited to G-rated movies; the cable TV system (mandated by court order) was blocked by Arpaio to limit viewing to those stations Arpaio deems to be “educational”, mainly Animal Planet, Disney Channel, The Weather Channel, A&E, CNN, and the local government access channel.
Arpaio also instituted a program for inmates to study while in jail and to try to recover from drug abuse. Hard Knocks High lays claim as the only approved high school program in any American jail. Another jail program, called ALPHA, is aimed solely at getting inmates away from drug abuse.
In October 2005, Arpaio started mandatory two-week English classes for non-English-speaking inmates at his jails.
He spends 30 cents a day on meals for prisoners. In one aspect he has saved the county a lot of money. But, the savings are lost when the county has to pay lawsuit settlements.
And then there are the criminal charges against him and his deputies.
He really just cancels hisself out. Whatever cost saving and good he does on one hand, is negated by the money settlements and criminal charges on the other.
But for whatever reason, the voters like him. Arpaio successfully campaigned for the office of Maricopa County Sheriff in 1992. Since then, he has successfully won re-election in 1996, 2000, and 2004 with considerable support of the county voters.
And that concludes todays lesson. lol.

It's already been proven long ago in federal prisons that when inmates get educated their recidivism rates go down. ( that means they don't return to prison )

He did not work,and he was shacked up in a housing project WE pay for with his equally useless girlfriend,who by the way,should be getting an eviction notice.
Which brings me to this ......if it is illegal for felons to live in HUD housing,somebody better call the Crisfield Hosuing Authority and tell them because apparently they do not know the law.That place is full of hoodlums.The two guys who committed the "hate crime" last month in Crisfield were BOTH convicted felons who lived in the projects.How hard is it to check up on these people and clean house? Alot of decent folks are on the waiting list who are NOT criminals.Ride through there you would think it was a halfway house complex for parolees!
