Curbing Entitlement Programs
House Speaker John Boehner says Republicans will propose a budget in the spring that curbs the growth in Social Security and Medicare. He tells the Wall Street Journal, he hopes to persuade the American public that entitlement programs must be curbed if there's any hope of bring federal deficits under control. At this point, most Americans don't have a clue to how big the fiscal problem is, Boehner says. Entitlement programs comprise more than 60 percent of the budget, and they are growing fast.

The entitlement programs such as food stamps, disability should be investigated . There are people living on welfare and have no intention of going to work. Also anyone etting welfare should have a drug test each month.
The welfare should also have a track record of what the money is spent for.
The social security and medicare came from working people who earned it. Most of these people on walfare have not worked a day in their lives. Walfare was created for families who are between job, etc NOT an occupation. A lot of disabled people kknow how to fill out the peperwork. When you see them driving around town, lifting heavy furniture(when they have a bad back). If the government wants to cut medicare cut out the cheating doctors. My mother in law was "e-rayed" 6 months after she died.??? Some of the people go to a doctor for a sore throat and wind up with a cat scan, mri all these expensive tests that are not necessary but billed to midicare.
Cut out the crooks and hellp the honest hard working people.
I commend John Boehner for touching the third rail....most politicians fear mentioning this topic, because it's considered a re-election killer.

You wanna spend more money to try to save money? You sound like Obama.
How many people receive welfare?
In 2005, the government gave temporary assistance to approximately 2,000,000 needy people. In comparison, more than twice as many people (nearly 5,000,000) were granted welfare in 1995.

So roughly two million drug tests each and every month?
I guess that would create jobs wouldn't it? Someone would have to make the tests, administer the tests, etc.
By the way, where do you get your statistics on 'the people who have no intention of going to work', 'have not worked a day in their lives', 'people riding around lifting heavy furniture with a bad back', and 'Some of the people go to a doctor for a sore throat and wind up with a cat scan, mri all these expensive tests that are not necessary but billed to midicare'?
And what is an 'e-ray'?
I loved your last statement, 'Cut out the crooks and hellp the honest hard working people'.
So only honest, hard working people deserve help in your opinion?
If they are working hard, would they need help?
We work every day so the walfare people can sit at home on their a$$es and do nothing but do drugs and spend their time selling drugs and sit back watching t.v.. Cut out the free money and Ill bet those people would find a job.
The word is x-ray. I know of several people who get the expensive tests when not needed.
You should get a job at the newspaper. I hear they are looking for a proof reader.
I guess I struck a nerve with you. Are you a member of the INDEPENDANCE CLUB?
@2:37...ur thought process is horrible. You can't really believe what ur saying, right? Your leaving out important information....welfare tolls are closer to 3 million, but food stamps tolls have skyrocketed. Food stamps aren't included in the welfare stats. Nearly 40 million people receive foes stamps now and that crazy. Many people in our town don't pay for rent, food, or utilities....and get a check from the government on top of it. I used to own low income housing and the system is completely unmonitored and people easily qualify. There is no incentive to work for low wages when your "welfare benefits" get cut off or reduced because you start to show income. You would be surprised how many people in Salisbury draw all this assistance then have a cash job on the side. Get real...it's a very poor system that is being abused. A large part of society is becoming addicted, in a sense, to these programs and it's a lose/lose for the people receiving it and people funding it.
Cut out the free money and Ill bet those people would find a job
Where?
I know of several people who get the expensive tests when not needed.
Such a small control group.
You should get a job at the newspaper. I hear they are looking for a proof reader.
It's obvious you wouldn't qualify. Bad enough you talk nonsense but then can't even spell your gibberish.
Are you a member of the INDEPENDANCE CLUB?
Yes I am. I can think independently from the misinformation and fear you sheep profess.
Have a nice day.
A lot of folks on food stamps now are the working poor (have jobs that are low-wage and don't pay all the bills) and now some middle class people who lost their jobs in the recession.
Yes, there are abusers, but there are many more who are just using it to survive while they try for something else, just stop gap.
Don't go there on "they should have prepared." My parents "prepared" and lost half of what they had in IRA's and so -called "safe" savings.
I heard Mom say she hoped they wouldn't live past what they have left. How sad is that? Worked their whole lives and it was taken away by the greed of fat cats.

Sorry to hear about your parents. Cases like that are becoming far too common.
Most on here are mis-informed about who and why are on welfare. Nowadays we all are one paycheck away from being homeless.
Good luck to you and yours.
Sorry to hear about your parents as well...but the people recieving section 8, social services, and foods stamps on church, booth, isabella st, etc haven't worked the entire lives and lost it all int the stock market. The majority of them abuse the system while giving no effort to better themselves/families. Programs like food stamps are poorly monitored and don't promote advancement in society. These programs are aren't assisting the majority of the receipients. The majority of people, atleast in our town, don't attempt to help themselves yet are awarded for their lack of effort with just enough money to not have to work. Its in a sense enslaving an ever growing population of US citizens. Programs should be geared to improving peoples standard of living not supporting bad behavior/life styles with free money. People fall on hard times and thats why these programs were created...to keep normally productive individuals/families afloat during unfortunate circumstances beyond their control. Instead its abused by people whom have no intention of being productive but instead work the system for their own benefit. If you have ever work with social services and section 8 you would realize that they are programs that need drastic overhauls.
